The Labor Day Weekend Memory

The first Monday of September is the labor day holiday in U.S..
The word Labor always remind me of the phrase from black slaves
crying " Quittin' time " in the movie Gone with the wind.

Unlikely the labor day of Japan in late Autumn,
it means the last day of summer in U.S..
It's not a quittin' time but starting time to work seriously again.
There have been Back-to-school sale everywhere in the nationwide,
the number of sales is taken as very important data for the economy.

Though there are also plenty of parades and events
all over the land on this weekend,
New Yorkers around me are going out for their beach house and country house.
Having a sentimental walk on the beach
and cleaning up the house would be things to do there.

Instead of going to Hampton,
I was invited to Fire Island Pines area for five summers in a row,
where family type of gay people and other straight families gather.
It's usually a very peaceful place with quiet residents,
but there are many farewell summer parties around this time.

Parties at gay men's house can't go without drag queens.
People spend some money and energy for their costumes and preparations,
including doctors and lawyers at work can turn out to be gorgeous women
with makeups and dresses and wigs.
Well, some look rather monstrous than beauty queens,
marching in high heels on the wooden boardwalk.
I wasn't the exception, getting professional makeup and a wig on my head,
had to wear the theme colored dress of the house.
Voila, six feet tall beauty from Japan?

It's more like a "fey" that I wrote about the other day.
Drinks and dances at the party
and probably some drugs like there's no tomorrow.
Funny enough, you come to behave naturally like a woman
(or a real gay guy) when you wear makeup and fluffy dress.
Then I got so drunk, tucking up the dress and exhibiting my private part,
and fell on the floor with the heel stuck in the crack of the wooden deck,
throwing away the shoes.
I ended up being another monster with my fake eyelashes as mustache
and some lipstick marks on the cheeks.
Never had been so embarrassedly out of myself but so much fun.

Some patriots may frown when they see this craziness on the meaningful labor day.
but it may also remind them samba carnival in Brazil,
which some people spend entire money they own on the costumes and parties.
Very similar to the party holders here.

A day after the party, there are usual cool faces on the ferry to the town.
Now summer's behind and people are going back to work from next day.
With a little cooler sea wind, their profiles are calm
probably thinking of the job awaiting them in the office.
