Macカメラ延長保証サービスについて１ヶ月くらい前のブログで触れた。
簡単におさらいしておくと、これは３年間の延長保証サービスで、大手家電量販店がやっているようなやつである。ただし販売店が行っている保証ではなくMacカメラという会社がやっている。
改めて証書を見返してみたところ１７ドルの掛金で最大５００ドルまで保証すると書いてあるようである。
６月終わりにサイト で必要書類（領収書、保証書、証書）と申込書ダウンロードしてメールしてみたところ、１週間ほどして以下のようなメールがきた。
Dear Customer,
Your Control number is Nxxxx .Please provide us with a written estimate (in English) from an authorized service center in your area. You may fax to 973-467-0776, mail the estimate to Mack Camera Service, 200 Morris Ave., Springfield, N.J. 07081 or e-mail to: international@mackcam.com.
The Control# must be added to estimates and correspondence. Please allow up to 7 business days for a response.This Control Number is your authorization to obtain an estimate and does not guarantee a repair. Mack Camera Service has the right to refuse any estimates and request that equipment to be returned to Mack Camera Service in New Jersey for evaluation. Your Control Number is valid for 90 days from the date of this letter.NOTE: To locate an authorized repair facility in your area for your product, please contact the manufacturer.If you should have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail, fax or telephone: 1-800-252-6225 x104.

まあ、簡単に言って、メーカーからの修理見積をとって送れと言ってるようである。なので、ガーミンに問い合わせたときにもらったメールをPDFにして、送ってみた。メールには７営業日と書いてあったが、返事が来たのは７月３１日であった。返事は以下のとおり。
Dear Customer,
Your estimate has been approved.
Please open attached letter and return with a copy of paid invoice so we can proceed with reimbursement.Mack Camera & Video Service can reimburse you three ways, US check, Paypal or Wire Transfer. If you would like a check to be processed, please provide me with your mailing address. If you have a Paypal account and would like the payment processed to your account, please provide the email for the account. If you would like a Wire Transfer to be processed please fill out the attached wire transfer form and email or fax it back. I would like to inform you that most receiving banks do take out transfer fees, in which Mack Camera & Video Service is not responsible for.
Please note: Mack Camera & Video Service is not responsible for shipping fees or taxes.

しかし上限５００ドルといっておきながら、３３ドルの配送料も負担してくれないらしい。１７ドルの掛金で、７９ドルの保証が受けられるということのようだ。支払い方法が小切手・ペイパル・電信送金のどれかを選べるということらしいが、電信送金を選んだ場合送金手数料は誰が負担してくれるのか・・・。８０ドルぽっち送るのに送金手数料が２０ドルくらいかかりましたので、それは相殺しましたと言われても困るが、アメリカ人的にチェック一枚多分普通郵便で送ってくるのでそれも嫌な感じだ。
代金を払ってその領収書をメールすればいいらしい。
しかしながら、これでやっと修理代金を払ってもらえるということになったので、今度はGarminにメールしてRMAナンバーを発行してもらうことにした。幸いこちらはすぐ発行してもらえたが、ここでもまたフォームに記入するように書かれている。ああ、めんどくさ～。
とりあえず今のところここまで。
