先日、大好きなバンド ”THE YELLOW MONKEY”の東京ドーム公演に行ってきました。
ライブを観るのは久しぶりで、しかも東京ドーム。
以前コロナで東京ドーム公演が中止になった話なんかも色々聞いていたので、
晴れてまた東京ドームで観れるのが本当に嬉しかったです。
ベースのHEESEYさんのサポートギターを10年くらい弾かせていただいていますが、
いつも近くで見るHEESEYさんが、
この日はとても遠くて豆粒のようで、
でも存在はとてつもなく大きくて、
すごいエネルギーを放っていました。
そして今回、とても気掛かりだったのが、
喉頭がんから復帰したばかりの吉井さんのこと。
MCでもそのことには触れてましたし、
スクリーンに治療中の映像や、
がんと向き合うメンバー皆さんのインタビューなんかも流れ、
かなりシリアスな状況だと思いましたが、
そこに向き合う姿勢に、逆にこちらが勇気や元気をもらいました。
ライブでは、そんなことがあったとは思えない吉井さんの歌声に驚きました。
パワフルで、多彩な表現力で、
僕を含めドームにいた全員が魅了されていたと思います。
最高にかっこよくて、
色々と考えさせられつつ勇気ももらい、
本当に素晴らしいライブでした。

~「THE YELLOW MONKEY at Tokyo Dome」~
The other day, I went to see a concert by my favorite band, THE YELLOW MONKEY, at Tokyo Dome.
It had been a while since I watched a live concert last , and this one was at Tokyo Dome.
I had heard about their Tokyo Dome performance being canceled due to COVID-19, but I was incredibly happy to finally see them perform there again.
I've been playing support guitar for their bassist HEESEY for about ten years now, but on this day, HEESEY, who I usually see up close, seemed like a tiny bean from my view.
Despite the distance, his presence was enormous, radiating immense energy.
What concerned me the most this time was Yoshii, who had just returned after battling laryngeal cancer.
He mentioned it during the MC, and the screen showed footage of his treatment and interviews with the band members facing cancer.
It was quite serious, but their approach to dealing with it gave me strength and courage.
During the concert, Yoshii’s voice was astonishing, making it hard to believe he had been through such an ordeal.
His powerful and versatile expression captivated everyone in the dome, myself included.
The concert was incredibly cool, thought-provoking, and upliftings.
It was truly a fantastic performance.
