In 1975, a little film about about the battle between a Police Chief and a man-eating shark, called JAWS, debuted in movie theaters across the United States, and I am here to honor the occasion. Steven Spielberg's JAWS is widely considered the first summer blockbuster, and in my opinion, it's the best of them, too.
At the time Spielberg was only 27 years old. It was only his second film, and presented a serious challenge. There are interesting details about the making of the film. and I wanna talk about some of them. For example, the film's production time ended up being 3 times as long, while the budget ended up double its original estimate.
It's hard to believe but this film was not made in a pool using CGI; it was actually filmed in the middle of the ocean. Spielberg recalls the experience in an interview: "Making JAWS was the toughest filmmaking experience I've ever had. Nothing's ever come close to the production difficulties of shooting an actual special effects movie, not in a tank, but in the actual Atlantic Ocean. We must have been complete idiots to even expected to have an easy ride in the middle of the ocean making a movie." According to IMDB, the boat they used for filming began to sank after an accident.
Those of you who have seen the movie know that there aren't many scenes with the shark in it, and the ones where it does show up are short. You may think this was done n purpose to raise the tension and fear in the audience, but in actuality the robot that was used malfunctioned constantly. It was an original creation and controlling it was difficult, not to mention components were breaking all the time. This led to Spielberg using a lot of POV shots, as well as the well-known yellow flotation barrels.
And now, lemme you tell about our new arrivals. The long awaited-for FIVE BORO design series.
Do y'all know why NYC is called the Big Apple? One is that New England, of which New York is a part of, is one of the largest producers of apples in the country. But primarily it has its roots in horse racing. The biggest prizes were awarded at the races in New York, and thus it started to gain popularity. Additionally, many popular jazz clubs existed in New York back in the day, so it meant a good living for a jazz musician if he could find success there.
Most people think of the Knicks or the Yankees when it comes to NY-based sports team, but let's not forget about the Brooklyn Nets. Furthermore, Brooklyn has seen an explosive increase in the number of bike riders. The [BROOKLYN] T-SHIRT design takes inspiration from all of this, with a B-lettered basketball, as well as a bicycle among other graphics inserted.
There are also t-shirts for the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. And their designs all represent characteristics particular to each. When I was still living in NYC I spent most of my time in Manhattan and Brooklyn so I thought I'd introduce those two, but all of the designs are dope in their own right so check 'em out, you can't go wrong.
