Let me teach you what I did to create that American sound. When we have a word, that has a “t” and “n”, this “o” generally kind of disappear, the vowel isn't really pronounced. So we don't say “coTTOn” or “cuTTun.”
この米語音をどう発音したのか、教えます。「t」と「n」を含む単語がありますと、中の「o」は一般的に消えてしまい、母音は発音されなくなります。だから、「コットン」や「カッタン」とは言いません。
This disappears, therefore, the “t” and “n” are next to each other. In American English that “t” is not released. Let me explain what I mean.
これが消えますので、「t」と「n」が隣り合わせになります。米語では、この「t」は、「リリース（舌を口腔蓋から離すこと）」されません。どういう事か、説明致します。
When the tongue touches to create the “t”, generally we release the tongue, we say “t(h)a, t(h)a, t(h)a, t(h)a.” In this case, make sure there is no release. So don't say “cott(h)” say “co(TT).” Let's try that again, “co(TT).” Keep your tongue up and don't release it. The moment you release your tongue, you have more of a British accent, "cotten.”
舌が（口蓋に）当てられ、「t」の音が出ます、通常はここで、舌を離し、「タ、タ、タ、タ」と発音しますが、この場合は、舌が離れないようにして下さい。だから、「カット」と言わず、「co(TT) ‐（
coだけを発音した時点でTの音を出さずに止める）」と言います。もう一度、「co(TT)。」舌を口蓋に当てたまま、離さないでください。舌を離した瞬間、「cotten」といった、英国式の発音になります。
Listen carefully, “co(TT)n,” “co(TT)n.” What did I do? I pressed my tongue up for the “t” and I continued to create the “n” sound without really moving my tongue, “co(TT)n.” The only thing I did was I changed from the air flow stopping to the air now coming out through my nose to create the “n.”
