Reaching the end of a job interview,
企業面接が終わりにさしかかり、
the Human Resources Person asked the young Engineer fresh out of MIT,
人事課の担当者は、マサチューセッツ工科大学を卒業したばかりの若い技術者に訊ねた、
"And what starting salary were you looking for?"
「どのぐらいの初任給を望んでいるのかね？」
The Engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending
on the benefits package."
「年収１千万ぐらいで、福利厚生にもよりますが。」と技術者は答えた。
The HR Person said, "Well, what would you say to a package of
人事担当者が言った、「では、こんな内容でどうだい
5-weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching
retirement fund to 50% of salary,
５週間の休暇、１４日間の有給休暇、医療・歯科保障制度、給与の５割の退職基金、
and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a red Corvette?"
それから、２年リースの社用車ー例えば、赤のコルベットとかどうかね？」
The Engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow!!! Are you kidding?"
技術者は正座し、言った、「わあ～！！！冗談いってるんでしょ？」
And the HR Person replied,
人事担当者は答えた、
"Yeah, but you started it."
「そうだとも、だって君が始めたんだろ、冗談を。」
