国際刑事裁判所の会議がアフリカの国で開催された。そこで参加者が、国際刑事裁判所の重要さを守っている前の米国大使に質問した。何故米国はローマ規定を批准しないのか、と。
At a conference on International Criminal Court, held in an
African country, a participant asked a former US ambassador who defends the cause of the ICC, why his country does not ratify the Rome Statute.

だった。アメリカの自己陶酔を反映しているこの答を聞いて、アフリカの法曹界に居る自分としては驚きだった。
The former diplomat's answer was straightforward, "We trust our justice." As a jurist and African, I was shocked by this answer which reflects the American narcissism.

新しい植民地化（そして前の植民地化も）の人道に反することに罪がある欧州のリーダーたちを裁くための'国際法廷’がアフリカであるのは何時になるのでしょうか？人道に反する犯罪は時効にできないので、アフリカはそのような法廷を設置しアフリカにおける犯罪や拷問に責任のあるフランスやベルギー人たちを裁かなければなりません。これにはアルジェリアも含みます。この前のナチの犯罪が時効にできないのであれば植民地化した者たちの犯罪を時効にしなければならないことはないでしょう。欧州でアフリカのリーダーたちが裁判にかけられ得るのならアフリカで欧州人たちを裁けなければなりません。そうでなければハカリが２つあることになります。そして同じことが軍事基地についても言えます。

And a 'process' that drags on... If he is finally recognized innocent, what will be the compensation for these 6 years of deprivation of liberty? In fact, what France hopes, is that he will die before the verdict... possibly with the help of assassins using the latest techniques to eliminate the undesirables without any trace... and there are many!
Now, when will there be an 'international tribunal' that will sit in Africa to judge the European leaders guilty of crimes against humanity of the new (and former) colonization? Since crimes against humanity are imprescriptible, Africa must set up such a tribunal to judge the French or Belgians responsible for crimes and torture in Africa, and this includes Algeria. If the crimes of the former Nazis are imprescriptible, why should those of the colonizers be otherwise? And if we can judge African leaders
in Europe, then we must be able to judge Europeans in Africa, otherwise it is two weights and two measures, the same as for the military bases...

Et un "procés" qui s éternise... s il est finalement reconnu innocent quel sera le dédommagement pour ces 6 années de privation de liberté ? En fait ce que la France espere c est qu il mourra avant le verdict....eventuellement avec l aide d assassins utilisant les dernieres techniques permettant de supprimer les geneurs sans traces...et il y en a beaucoup !
Maintenant ,quand y aura t il un "tribunal international" qui siegera en Afrique pour juger les dirigeants europée...ns coupables des crimes contre l Humanité de la neo (aet ancienne ) colonisation ? Les crimes contre l Humanité étant imprescriptible il faut que l Afrique mette sur pied un tel tribunal pour juger les Francais ou Belges responsables de crimes et de torturese en Afrique , et cela inclue l Algerie. Si les crimes des anciens nazis sont imprecriptibles pourquoi ceux des colonisateurs devraient ils l être ? Et si l on peut juger les dirigeants Africains en Europe alors il faut pouvoir juger les europeens en Afrique sinon c est deux poids et deux mesures comme pour les bases militaires ....

2010年12月の大統領選挙の決選投票で54%の得票を得て当選したが、同国憲法評議会の裁定により当選を無効とされた。以降4ヶ月にわたり、対立候補で現職だったローラン・バグボと共に自らが正統な大統領であると主張しあう異常事態が続いた。しかし2011年4月11日、ワタラ側の軍の攻撃によってバグボが拘束され、バグボの失脚が確定。同年5月6日に就任宣誓を行い、正式に大統領に就任した[3]。
