今朝、甲信越地方で地震があったようですね。
名古屋も少し揺れました
みなさまにお怪我がなかったことを祈ります。
みなさんもご存知かもしれませんが、
地震は英語で「earthquake」です。
※短縮して、「quake」とだけ言うこともあります。
今日は、いざというときに役立つ、地震に関する英語表現を
みなさんとシェアしたいと思います。
地震の規模を表す表現＜震度＞
まず、日本の７段階の震度階級のことを
Japanese scale of 7(seven)
といいます。
その他地震に関するword震度 intensity
強 upper
弱 lower
例文
震度6弱の地震
An earthquake with an intensity of lower 6 on the japanese scale of 7
震度5強の地震
An earthquake with an intensity of upper 5 on the Japanese scale of 7
＜マグニチュード＞
マグニチュード5.5の地震
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5
もしくは
A magnitude-5.5 earthquake
ちなみに・・・
「横揺れ」 side-to-side
「縦揺れ」 vertical shake

地震のような自然災害を総称して
Natural desaster
と言います。
