Styx - Witch Wolf
昨日は、ギタリストのジェームズ・ヤングの誕生日にちなんで
スティクスを聴きながらコーヒー・タイムにしました。
スティクスにはメロディ・メイカーが3人いて
そのうちの一人がこのジェームズ・ヤングです。
ポップでメロディアスな曲を作るほかの2人とは違った
ハードな路線を走っていて、アルバムを通して聴くと
とてもよいアクセントになっています。
写真のアルバムは1977年にリリースされた
最初のベスト・アルバムですが、作曲者名を見てみると、
後年に比べジェームズ・ヤングの名前が
意外と多いような気がします。
ま、そんなワケでジェームズ・ヤングがリードの曲の中で
1973年のアルバム「The Serpent Is Rising」の1曲目の
「ウィッチ・ウルフ」の和訳に挑戦してみました。
そのタイトルからして、どう訳していいものか悩みました。
と、いうのも「Witch」は「魔女」、
で、「Wolf」はたぶん「♪男は狼なのよ～」って感じで
性別がそれぞれ違うんですから。。。
と、いうことで「魔女に呪われた狼(男)」のようにしてみました。
