今回の園は、ニュージーランドの援助がかなり入っているところ。
This kindergarten has lots aids from NZ.
だから、園舎も、敷地も、大型・小型遊具も、先生達の保育の仕方も、恵まれています。
So, they are very blessed; the building, the land, big and small toys, the way to teach children and so on.
主任の先生は、そのことに鼻高々な様子・・・。
I felt the head teacher have a pride for them.
いろいろと、自分達がやっていることを自慢げに教えてくれました。
She taught me how they work very hard arrogantly…
でも、やっぱり、“子ども達と一緒に遊ぶ”ということはしないみたい。
But, they don’t play with children…
周りの先生達と、ぺちゃくちゃおしゃべりしまくり。
They're chatting each other.
「この幼稚園がすごく良いのは分かったけど、どうして子どもと一緒に遊ばないの？」
と聞くと、
“I understood how you are good, but, why don’t you play with children?” I asked her.
「中にいる2人がするのよ」とサラッと言い、すぐに話を逸らされました。
“The other two teachers suppose to play with them.” She answered and she continues on to different topics.
でも、他の先生達も子どもと遊んでない・・・。
But, the other two teachers are not playing with children.
平気でウソをつきます。
They lie without feeling anything……
また、食後の歯磨きのことで「先生たちも一緒に歯磨きしたら手本になって良いんじゃない？」と私が子ども達と歯磨きしながら言うと、1人は、「そうね、じゃ、明日もって来てするわ」（多分しないと思うけど・・・）と言ってくれました。
Also, when I brushed my teeth with kids, and I suggested to them like, “I think it’s better for children if you bring your toothbrush and do it with children. Coz you are model for them. What do you think?” One of the teacher answered “ok, I’ll bring and do it tomorrow.” (I don’t think she’ll forget though…)
でも、主任の先生は、
But, the head teacher said to me…
「だって、本部（彼らのグループの）が歯ブラシを支給してくれないんだもの」
“No, because they(their company) provide toothbrushes for kids, but not for teachers.”
私、「でも、自分の家に自分のあるでしょ？持ってくればいいじゃない？」
I answered, “but, you have yours in your house. Just bring it.”
彼女、「そうすれば、朝と夜できなくなるもの」
She said, “Then, I can’t do in the mornings and nights.”
私、「持ち歩けばいいじゃない？私はそうしてるよ」
Me, “You can have it with you all the time. I’m doing that now actually.”
彼女、「忘れちゃうわよ」
She, “I might forget.”
私、「忘れなきゃいいじゃない？」
Me, “Just don’t forget.”
自分のことを“ハードワーカーだ”と言っている割には、面倒くさがり屋でとてもハードワーカーには思えません。
She said to me that she is a hard-worker, but for my sight, she is lazy and I can’t think that she’s a hard-worker…
いや、トンガ人的に、ハードワーカーなのかもしれない・・・。
Maybe, I’m wrong… Maybe, the people like her are hard-workers in Tongan way…
トンガ人って、ウソ、いいわけ、子どもみたいです。
Tongan people, lie, say excuses, just like children.
以前にも、こんな会話が・・・。
I did conversation like this before…
Aさん、「ソーコ、トンガ人の幼稚園の先生達は、皆ウソつきだから、気をつけてね」
Ms.A “Soko. Tongan kindergarten teachers are ALL liars. Be careful.”
私、「じゃ、あなたもウソつきなの？」
Me “Then, are you a liar too?”
Aさん、「いや、私は違う！ 皆じゃないわ、何人かの先生達がウソつきなのよ」
Ms.A “No, I’m not!! Not ALL, some teachers are liars.”
私、「うん、（あなたが大嘘つきだってことが）良くわかった！」
Me “All right! I understood(that you are a big liar).”
実際、Aさんは、特に食べ物を見ると黙って持っていく人なので、周りのトンガ人も困っています。 In fact, Ms.A take(steal) foods without saying anything, so, other Tongans always hide foods from Ms.A.
幼稚園オフィスに行っても、
In my office too, my boss says very oftenly,
「ソーコ、幼稚園の先生達や、幼児教育コースの学生達は、ウソつきで、（飾ってある）おもちゃを盗んでいくから、気をつけてね」
“Soko, kindergarten’s teachers and ECE course students are liars and steal toys from here. So, be careful.”
と、本当にしょっちゅうボス（勿論トンガ人）に言われます。
トンガ人本人達が認める事実。
The fact that Tongans admit.
何かっていうと毎回言われるものだから、こちらとしても本当に辛い・・・。
I’m often said like that, so, I became suspicious and feel very tired.
このウソつき達の中で、いろいろ誠実に何かをしようとするのは、けっこう酷ですね。
Doing some works in this environment sometimes makes me very confused and irritated.
まぁ、“振り込め詐欺”で毎日何億ものお金が動く日本だって、相当ウソがはびこってますね・・・。
But, people have stress in

Back to the main story…
もう一人の若い先生は、私の用意して行ったものに感動したらしく、一緒に作ってくれました。
Another young teacher made a thing(toy) with me.
というのも、
Actually,
主任の先生は、「ソーコ、それ、ちょうだい！もらえればこれからもできるから！」
The head teacher said to me that, “Soko, give us that. Then we can do it later with kids!”
私、「え！あげないよ。あげちゃったら私が出来なくなるじゃない？もし欲しいなら作り方教えるよ」
Me “O! sorry, I can’t give you this coz if I give you I’ll lose it. If you want, I’ll tell you how to make it.”
という会話から始まったのでした。 主任の先生は、ご自分はハードワーカーのつもりらしいですが、やっぱりレイジーのようでした。
But, the head teacher never response to me… Instead, the other younger one asked me how to make.
いや、私が若くて小さいから、何かを教わるということに関してプライドが許さないのかもしれません・・・。
But, maybe, because I’m young and little(compare to them), their pride doesn’t allow them to be taught from me…
（トンガ人は“見かけ”を相当気にします。また、プライドもとても高いのです。）
これは、困ったぞ！ Tongan people care their looks, and their pride is very high… I maybe in trouble!!
私が相手にするのは、ほとんどが、噂が大好きな大きいおばちゃんたち！！
Tongan kindergartens teachers are normally big and older than me. The very lovely aunties who like gossips!!
でも、ま、幼稚園の巡回、だんだん楽しめるようになって来ました。
トンガの幼稚園、いろいろあっておもしろいです。
But, I kinda became enjoying visiting kindargartens. I like Tongan kindargartens.
３月２０日土曜日の夜と、２２日月曜日の夜、大使館の主催で日本の伝統音楽コンサートが行なわれました。
The nights of 20th and 22nd of March, we had Japanese Traditional Music Concert held by Japanese embassy.
招かれたのは、オーストラリア・メルボルンで活躍中の津軽三味線プレイヤーのタダノノリコさんと和太鼓プレイヤーのサカモトトシノリさん。

私の地元、秋田の民謡も奏でられ、しばしトンガにいることを忘れました。
They played my home-town’s music too, and I couldn’t believe that I’m in
そして、盛り上げ役として、JICAボランティアの有志のメンバーで南中ソーラン節を踊りました。 トンガに来て、(私は)２度目。
AND!!
We, volunteers from JICA volunteer member danced Nanchu-Soran-Bushi. It’s 2nd time for me.
今回のフェイスペインティングは、歌舞伎調。
Our face were like KABUKI this time.

今回も、トンガ人の観客の皆様、威勢のよい南中ソーラン節のダンスに物凄い盛り上がってくれました。 見よう見まねで一緒に踊りだす人達もいたとか・・・。
Tongan audiences were very excited with our energetic dance!! I heard that there were people who danced with us!!
いやはや、しかし、南中ソーラン節、息が切れます。 筋肉痛・・・。
Anyway, Nanchu-Soran-Bushi made us pretty tired. And muscle ache…
でも、和太鼓もとってもかっこ良かったし、楽しかったぁ！
The drums were very cool!! I enjoyed this concert a lot!!
