Journey and Dolly on the way

Summer just got one step closer with the announcement of two outdoor music festivals, a retro rock show at the X and a visit from a country legend.

The indie hip hop extravaganza Soundset will take place May 29 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, with the venerable Warped Tour pulling into the same venue July 10.

Now in its fourth year, Soundset offers Twin Cities favorites (Atmosphere, Doomtree, Brother Ali) as well as national acts (Big Boi, De La Soul, Slaughterhouse). More than 40 artists will perform on two stages for nine hours, with other attractions including a DJ tent, skate demo area, custom car show and live painting exhibit. Friday through Ticketweb.

The long running Warped Tour which was founded in 1995 and has long since become a summer tradition jumpman23 features dozens of punk, metal, hip hop and indie bands playing multiple stages throughout the day. Less Than Jake, Pepper, Simple Plan, Relient K, Black Veil Brides, Foxy Shazam, Unwritten Law, Lucero and the Aggrolites are among the groups scheduled to perform. Friday through Ticketweb.

In other summer concert news, three retro rock acts will join forces to play the Xcel Energy Center on July 28. Monday through Ticketmaster.

Also, country queen Dolly Parton will headline Mystic Lake Casino on July 27. Tickets are $99 and $79 and will go on sale at noon Friday. Expect this one to sell out quickly.
