"They were taken out on the 17th and 18th and re poured on the 21st."The concrete was chipping at the edges and there was a potential that the design strength would be compromised, she wrote.Who's paying for the arena? Not meEarlier this week, the Journal Star reported that 24 businesses were delinquent on an estimated $388,482 of the arena occupation tax.In the first 12 months, the city collected $11.8 million from restaurants, bars, hotels and car rental businesses to help fund the more than $340 million in costs associated with development of the arena and related amenities. The $11.8 million amounts to $45.67 for everyLincoln resident man, woman and child. But in reality, some of us including visitors to Lincoln are paying way more than others, since the biggest chunk of the revenue comes from a 2 percent tax on restaurant and bar bills. My partner in covering local government, Jordan Pascale, is 24 and says he spends way more than he shouldat restaurants. In one week last month, he spent $12 on coffee, $24 on lunches, $29 on dinners and $15 on drinks out.So he contributed about $1.60 to the arenathat week, andhe figures he's spent about$89.60 since the tax began in January 2011.I rarely eat out, but I do drive through McDonald's for a senior (cheap) coffee three or four times a week.McDonald's raised their senior coffee by a penny to cover the arena tax a year ago. So I've contributed at least $2.08 in the past year.
