When I visited the U.S., I was surprised at the culture of allowing people to take home leftover food from restaurants, and I felt the cultural difference between Japan and the U.S.

I was curious to know if Japan is the only country that does not allow students to take leftover food home, so I asked students from Korea, the U.S., and Malaysia.

According to my research, all countries expect Japan, all countries except Japan said they could take home leftovers.

Especially, The U.S. restaurants any American restaurants provide disposable containers for customers to take leftovers home like this picture.

Next, I asked what foreign students think of Japanese restaurant rules that do not allow leftovers to be taken home.

They all agreed that a take-out system should be adopted to reduce food waste.

I agree with this opinion. Food waste is a big problem in Japan. Therefore, I also think that a take-out system should be introduced. According to the Asahi news paper, an increasing number of restaurants in Japan have adopted a system that allows customers to take home leftover food.

I hope that this culture will become common and that food waste will decrease.
