Buffalo plaid was the signature streetwear look emerging in winter 2007 and subsiding as more intricate and western plaids started to dominate last year. Sneaker brands have branched out into boot territory more than ever before this year. The John Varvatos x Nike Chuck Taylor Multi Eye Ox and Vintage Slip are both done in distressed snakeskin, with the former adding tons of teeny-tiny eyelets and crazy-long elastic shoelaces, while the later goes for a more traditional flat waxed cotton. Japan leads the way in many facets of fashion and sneaker culture, but few places is this more apparent than the Nike Japan collection. Their premium releases cover the entire spectrum from basic to bold, with curious designs livening up even the most familiar One Star designs. The slate nike free v3 for October 2010 includes a series of leather models both classic and monochromatic, some double-layered Chuck Taylor All Stars in both high and low, Chucks with snakeskin on the foxing band and several pairs in argyle, herringbone and polka dots. Recently Sneaker News showed you the Nike (Paint The Town) RED collection that featured the classic Nike Chuck Taylor designed by four well-known artists. Here’s another pair intended to raise money for the great Product (RED) campaign designed by Damien Hirst. The colorway is inspired by his ‘All You Need Is Love’ painting from 2007, featuring a red, blue, and yellow upper with butterflies. Sneaker News recently introduced our weekly buyer’s guide, highlighting those sneaker selections that may undeservedly fly under the radar, and this latest release from Nike First String could fall in that group. Nike’s consistency with high-quality releases continues with this latest Nike First String release, which arrives in the form of the Jack Purcell Johnny Weld Pack. This duet of a high and low-top features Bemis weld detailing (often seen in outdoor gear) with a visible midfoot shank. The latest retro release from Nike comes a little over a year after its sequel was briefly available last spring. So how does the Nike Fast Break Pro Leather Mid stack up against the Fast Break II? The most significant difference is the lack of the II’s bold midsole branding on the original model. But otherwise, the overall shape, placement of the Star/Chevron logo and heel flex zone are quite similar. We’re back again with new a set of images on the upcoming Nike Startech LE, an old school basketball shoe that is being revived this summer courtesy of Nike.
