INTRODUCTION
主人公の牧本壮役は、『舞妓Haaaan!!!』(07)、『謝罪の王様』(13)等に続き水田伸生監督とタッグを組む阿部サダヲ。牧本が出会う孤独な女性・津森塔子役に満島ひかり。そして牧本の迷惑にまき込まれる人々に、國村隼、宮沢りえ、宇崎竜童、松下洸平ほか個性豊かな豪華キャストが結集。原作は、第70回ヴェネチア国際映画祭で4つの賞を受賞したウベルト・パゾリーニ監督『おみおくりの作法』（１５）。原作にある日本でも社会問題となっているテーマを、岸田國士戯曲賞受賞の劇作家・倉持裕がユーモラスな語り口で新たな魅力に溢れた脚本にし、『ゆとりですがなにか』、『初恋の悪魔』等の水田監督が笑って泣けるエンターテインメントに昇華させた。この秋、ちょっと迷惑な男・牧本が“まき”起こす奇跡の物語が、日本中をやさしさで包む―。

STORY
ある見知らぬ男の人生を“まき”戻すことになった「おみおくり係」のまきもと。
彼がたどり着いた“奇跡のさいご”とは――
小さな市役所に勤める牧本の仕事は、人知れず亡くなった人を埋葬する「おみおくり係」。故人の思いを大事にするあまり、つい警察のルールより自身のルールを優先して刑事・神代に日々怒られている。ある日牧本は、身寄りなく亡くなった老人・蕪木の部屋を訪れ、彼の娘と思しき少女の写真を発見する。一方、県庁からきた新任局長・小野口が「おみおくり係」廃止を決定する。蕪木の一件が“最後の仕事”となった牧本は、写真の少女探しと、一人でも多くの参列者を葬儀に呼ぶため、わずかな手がかりを頼りに蕪木のかつての友人や知人を探し出し訪ねていく。工場で蕪木と同僚だった平光、漁港で居酒屋を営む元恋人・みはる、炭鉱で蕪木に命を救われたという槍田、一時期ともに生活したホームレス仲間、そして写真の少女で蕪木の娘・塔子。蕪木の人生を辿るうちに、牧本にも少しずつ変化が生じていく。そして、牧本の“最後のおみおくり”には、思いもしなかった奇跡が待っていた。
