Same goes for you as was said to MisterPapageno. Unless you're singing at La Scala, vaffanculo..
If a black tenor shows up with the ability to perform it, you WILL see him in Othello and in white roles as well. Don't doubt it. Opera is the most race-neutral of all disciplines. The voice is everything; all else is immaterial. I would see Othello if an Asian, White or Latino man was in the role, so long as he could handle it. .
I die for watching Elina Garranca ! Altough i wanted to see her in Maria Stuarda as Queen Elizabeth!
By real régie you mean Wotan in a plastic ballon? Violetta Valery being fucked in scene? Pinkerton comming down from a spaceship? Because that is what régisseurs do in Europe nowadays. (Sorry about my english).

Nice wobble
Thank god for Peter Gelb. He has made it possible for all the world to view this wondergul art form. Idon't care what anybody says he is great.
I was writing from my mobile, so I didn't care about forms...I was interested by the sostance, and the sostance is that all (or most, if you prefer) of the singers that are in this video are very very bad, but they're celebrated by people like you, who watch only the media-impact, and not the real voice's quality. Try to say me that Netrebko or who you want has got TECNICALLY a good voice, and is not only a beautiful woman..
Mamma mia, no Puccini! :<
Glad that the Met is putting on a new opera. I hope it keeps supporting new artists, composers, and playwrites..

Worthless and witless productions of little merit.
I am delighted that you love opera, but my question is - what attracts you to opera, beautiful music and singing or productions that ignore the composer's intentions and move the action somewhere else? Have you seen many productions staged as composer intended so that you could compare? Do you like Aida in this video? What about Rigoletto, do you really prefer it staged in Las Vegas vs staged in 16th century Mantua? .

The singers are excellent, SOME of the productions are very good. I just heard wonderful Aida there (different tenor) and The Clemenza di Tito, both excellent productions. Haven't seen L'Elisir this year, but the clips I've seen sound great. But I HATE Regie with the passion. Rigoletto in Vegas????? HELLO?.
Name one great black singer that has singed Otello. Martinelli, Del Monaco, Vinay, Domingo, Vickers; none of them was black. About Aida, yes, you have the great Leontyne Price. But, are you willing to lose Callas, Caballé or Tebaldi, just because they were not black? (By the way, I have just heard lyudmila Monastyrska in my country, and she is amazing) People like you, that forget the music and the voice, and only care about the image, are detroying opera. (Sorry about my english).
My brother Will Liverman is in this!!!!!! Can’t wait! Loveeeee Isabel!!!
I love this opera

Tuned in to the live broadcast on Monday via Sirius. Pretty Yende was really good. Can't wait for her run as Lucia later in the season. As for Ildebrando, I just don't think he's a natural for Doctor Dulcamara. The patter singing was o.k. but if you go back to Fernando Corena, Enzo Dara, Alessandro Corbelli and even Ambrogio Maestri, he doesn't come across as a natural, larger-than-life comic. His Leporello was one of the most serious I've ever encountered. I see him more as an Enrico VIII in Anna Bolena or perhaps Assur in Semiramide. That said, you get to see the whole conception of a role in a telecast so I'm looking forward to seeing this in the theatre in a few weeks. Matthew Polenzani continues to be an endearing Nemorino and I thought that Davide Luciano made a fine debut..
Love Pretty Yende...
This looks FANTASTIC!!
I didn’t miss it. And it was ADORABLE.
PLEASE tell me this is going to be released on DVD. The whole performance was perfect beyond words.
Agreed. Let's see Duke of Mantua as Sinatra-type figure???? Hello? Both Rigoletto and Le Roi s'amuse are about abuse of power. The king/duke is an absolute ruler with complete power over life/death, he is also a person who is supposed to rule but who instead is involved in orgies and seducing married women/young virgins (at the time when losing virginity means dishonor) and husbands/fathers can't do a thing. Rigoletto is what he is because the way people made him Take this away and what is left?.

I don't understand the lukewarm review this got. I saw it HD and I'm going back for the rebroadcast on Wednesday evening. It might have something to do with the production team being the people who did Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Spring Awakening. It moves more like a contemporary stage show than most opera's do. Isabel Leonard was perfect for the role. The staging is amazing as are the voices and orchestra..
ALSO, was JDF and Damrau and Kwiecien's 'L'esir' not better than the plump Polenzani and Netrebko?.

hahahaha the met is from the foundation a theatre for bad singers!!! from Domingo, to Carreras, to Battle, to Baltsa, to Zajik, to Marton etc etc....in la Scala's golden ages there were REAL opera divas (do you know? Callas, Tebaldi, Lauri Volpi, Schipa, Cigna, Dimitrova, Moffo, Pavarotti, Contrubas, Popp, Araiza, Von Stade)....I swear you that most of these wondeful singers were not known at the MET, but....If you like listening shit from the 1800....do as you want...I don't do it....bye..
Well, there may not have been black dramatic tenors yet, and it's not Lawrence Brownlee's fach, but hey we've had black sopranos singing Spanish countesses and princesses, German demi-goddess, Irish princess and Japanese Geisha. We've also had a black Germanic God (Simon Estes as Wotan). Opera is about the voice. .

What a horrible opera...
im 13 and i love it
Dear My: Please go to FathomEvents online and put in your zip code to see if they are showing any operas in your area at your local movie theater. They are first class! It's the Metropolitan Opera from Lincoln Center in High Def and just fabulous. I had never seen an opera until I went to one of these presentations. I LOVE them all! Good luck!.
Bravos! Excellent duet! 😀👏
😍😘♥️💕
She clearly has no idea what she is singing about.
I'm so excited to hear this amazing cast of super mediocrity. These singers should appear on American idol. They're like pretty good and stuff !!!.
Met productions are rebroadcasted on PBS Great Performences too. La Traviata will be on 8/26/12 12 PM check local listing or website..
Adina should dump both Belcore & Nemorino for Dulcamara, he's a hottie I tell you.
Love it ! Met is the best !

If you want to see real regie go to Europe. This is just tweaking the opers a little so they can be enjoyed by young and old..
I love the MET's productions... :)
...unfortunately now we coproduct many operas with the MET....and so we have most of your singers....UNFORTUNATELY
Alagna as Radamès? At the Met? After his (totally predictable) fiasco at La Scala?? They can't be serious......
this opera was absolutely amazing and thrilling!!! saw it today!!!
Oh EXCUSE ME!!! You are a little bit behind the times... Evidently you don't even know that this is the SECOND time Roberto has sung Aida at the Met - plus he sang it at the Royal Opera House in London last year with Liudmyla Monastyrska, so please start informing yourself before you mouth off - Oh, and maybe you can catch the live in HD performance filmed on December 15th.
i didnt realize that was netrebko on the side of my bus.
I just want to know if she sung in italian?
