Lots of things went right for me in this movie. Good story, good characters and exciting plot. If I had to pinpoint what worked for me in this story, then I'll pick Superman's arc. This movie made me get into Superman's mind and see the world as he saw it. It was not just his point of view of observing earth as an outsider. But also his reactions to supervillain stuff happening to him. One thing after another kept happening and it was wonderful to see him get acclimatized to that. It was all so realistic and made me feel emotionally close to an alien character. I hope live action movie where this amazing.

A very good start for DCUMA after the Flashpoint of JL Dark: Apocalypse War
If we already have this beginning with this origin of Superman that lets us see with Martian Manhunter and with Lobo (it is not a spoiler if you saw the trailer) that this will be a new shared universe of heroes
The origin or first adventure of the man of steel here is quite well taken, almost like in Dragon Ball Super Broly, this movie has a good and updated animation and constant action that makes it entertaining. But with a good plot of Kal-El's gutter discovery about himself and what it will be like to be a super heroic alien pretending to be human in the eyes of the public who see aliens or otherworldly beings to fear (something that more or less had already been seen in the DC CW series Supergirl)
It also represents very well what a young Superman is and novice at what it is to be a superhero when we know that in the future he will represent courage, hope, truth and justice in a world of self-destructive intelligent beings.
With characters like Lex Luthor and Lois Lane it's pretty much business as usual in any Superman origin that includes them.
A greedy millionaire who sees the world as foolish and insignificant who wants to destroy Superman to show that he is stronger and that humans don't need a super powerful and morally perfect guardian angel to deal with real human conflicts and a somewhat arrogant reporter with him poor Clark Kent and who is almost like Mrs. Florinda from the Superman stories before she knew who Superman is, someone who plays big and enviable but is just a reporter tell me who is saved daily by a big and strong man for sticking their noses where they don't care
But, as the action is extremely constant to run the plot that falls entirely on the protagonist, both Lex and Lois go into the background.
