LANCE WORTHINGTON was able to celebrate victory in his first game in sole charge of Dartmouth as they beat Elburton Villa 4-3 on the opening Saturday of the season at Longcross.

"I know it's an old cliche but this was a game of two halves," explained the Darts boss after his side had kick-started their season at the first time of asking.

"We started sharply, which was something I drilled into the lads in the close season, and we got our early reward," he added, referring to the Darts taking a 10th minute lead.

John Barrow's precise cross, from out wide on the right, found the head of central defender Richie Hammett and he powered the ball into the visiting net from six yards.

The Darts needed another 10 minutes to break through again after being awarded a free-kick in their own half, from which Sam Churchill launched the ball forward.

The Elburton defence failed to deal with the ball, leaving Shane Shobbrook to celebrate his debut by heading past Villa goalkeeper Dean Smith from six yards.

The points looked to be in the bag on the half-hour as 18-year- old Jake Ellis released Shobbrook, who turned his marker on the edge handbags u of the area before firing in a shot that was deflected past Smith by the onrushing Churchill.

Darts keeper Nathan Murphy was a virtual spectator for most of the first half and his first real job was to pick the ball out of the back of the net after Villa had been awarded a 40th minute penalty.

Dartmouth were now firmly on the back foot, and the scores were level five minutes later as Williams took on the home defence before firing low past Murphy from 18 yards.

Worthington proceeded to change things around by bringing on the influential Dan Griffiths for Rob Fricker.

Five minutes from time the substitute played a neat one-two with Churchill before round Smith and slotting home the winning goal into an empty net.

. BUCKLAND Athletic were made to work hard for their opening victory of the season as they began the defence of their title with a 2-1 victory at Pennygillam over a determined Launceston outfit.

The closeness of the final scoreline suggested a struggle for the Bucks but assistant manager Jamie Carwardine was convinced the word 'struggle' did not apply to this game.

"I would not look at the result as a struggle, just as a competitive game in which our quality and professionalism shone through in the end," he said.

"Launceston are a good side who are very well organised, work hard and they will cause a few upsets this season.

"It was an important start for us to get three points on the board, as we lost at Launceston last season and that was our last league defeat, so already we are points up on the last campaign.

Group clash in Odhav over stra

AHMEDABAD: It was a herd of stray cows that triggered a group clash in Odhav on Sunday afternoon. Members of two communities came at blows as three persons were injured and shifted to a private hospital. According to Odhav police station officials, cross-complaints have been filed in the case.

According to Odhav police station officials, Kadva Patidar Patel yuvak mandal had organised a blood donation camp in rememberance of martyr Major Rishikesh Ramani in Odhav. A motorcycle rally followed the programme that was going towards Khodiarnagar from Viratnagar at 4 pm on Sunday.

"When the youths were driving, a herd of stray cows came on the road and did not budge even when some of them tried to herd them out of the road. When they started beating them to move them away, a group of local Rabari youths protested against it and after verbal exchange, started pelting stones on the rally," said an Odhav police station official.

What ensued was confusion and chaos as the members of the rally in the back could not understand why it got stopped and started congregating on the road, blocking other traffic. Some of the youths were also injured in the incident, said police.

"As it was a major programme, we had deployed police along the Mulberry Handbags route of the rally and it helped us averting any major incident. Sensing the trouble, we had asked for personnel from two nearby police station who rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd and set the rally in motion again. As per our report, three persons have been injured in stone-pelting and few others have got bruises. The situation is under control as on Sunday evening," said MS Sindha, inspector of Odhav police station.

Late on Sunday evening, both the parties approached police station to lodge a complaint against each other.

Ex-county treasurer Cooper R.

Cooper R. Smith, 82, of Bowling Green, died May 31, 2010, in Bowling Green.

The Bowling Green native was born May 27, 1928. He was a graduate of College High School and Western Kentucky University, with degrees in math an science. He married Bette Margaret Leathers, of Lexington, on Dec. 30, 1950. He served from 1950 to 1976 in the U.S. Air Force, traveling all watches-m over the country and doing tours in Labrador, Turkey and Germany. He earned a master's degree in logistics management from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1966. A recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, he retired from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel, remaining a proud member of the Military Officers' Association of America for the remainder of his life.

After returning to his hometown, he completed a master's degree in business management at Western Kentucky University and was appointed treasurer for Warren County serving in this role from 1982-1992. Col. Smith followed his father's footsteps to become regent of the Ogden College Foundation, a position he held for more than 50 years, serving actively for 25 of those years.

A member of the First Christian Church of Bowling Green in his youth, Col. Smith later served the First Christian Church of Anchorage, Alaska, as deacon, elder and chairman of the board and sponsor of CYF, the high school youth group. An active member of The Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green for more than 30 years, he served as an adult Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder.

Col. Smith was also active in service to his community, as a member and past president of the Noon Kiwanis Club; Lt. Gov. of the Kentucky-Tennessee District Kiwanis Club; past president of the Charles Duncan Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution; treasurer of the Bowling Green Boys' club and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He was also an official member of the American Legion and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a son of the late Cooper R. Smith Sr. and Ruth Walker Smith.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at The Presbyterian Church, with entombment in the church columbarium. Visitation is Best Gucci Jewelry Online from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Survivors include Bette, his wife of nearly 60 years; a sister, Alice Simon; two daughters Leigh Jones and her husband, Don, of Hermitage, Tenn., and Shelly Greattinger and her husband, Daryl, of Monticello; a son, Cooper Ray Smith III and his wife, Carol, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Harmony Guffey, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Windy Guffey, of Seattle, Reuben Stahl, of Knoxville, Tenn., Lyndsay Greattinger, of San Francisco, Aaron and Austin Greattinger, of Monticello; four great-grandchildren Justice McClellan, Airius McClellan, James Patrick Carroll III and Riley Couture Carroll; four nieces, two great-nieces; and three great nephews.
