Hawaii Foodbank
ハードな１日のあと、空港近くの「Ruby Tuesday」で、遅い時間の豪華な食事をゆっくりと楽しみました。私はステーキとエビ、他の人はリブやサーモンステーキなど。
After a hard day’s work, we settled down to a very nice late dinner at “Ruby Tuesday” near the airport. I had steak and shrimp, others had ribs or salmon steak.
帰り際に、入り口の横に置かれた寄付箱を発見しました。この箱では缶詰の食料品を集めていました。高級レストランの中でこのようなものを見たことがなく、興味を持ったので調べました。この食料品を集めているHawaii Foodbankは以下の通り、缶詰や生鮮食品の寄付を募り、オアフ島にある250の慈善団体を通して、全ハワイ州民の14％にもあたる183,500人に食料品を配布しています。
As I was leaving the restaurant, I noticed a donation box right next to the front door. They are collecting canned goods. I’ve never seen anything like this in a fancy restaurant before, so my interest was piqued. Upon checking, I found that Hawaii Foodbank collects canned goods and perishable foods from donors and then makes them available for distribution through 250 charitable agencies on Oahu to feed the hungry to feed 183,500 people statewide or over 14 percent of Hawaii’s population including:

・ホームレス
・固定給で暮らしている障害者
・平均月収$850（85,000円）の低所得者
・失業者
・突然、健康または財産を失った人たち

それにしても、高い食事を楽しんだばかりのお客様は、複雑な気持ちにならないのでしょうか。
Nevertheless, I would guess that diners who have just experienced an expensive meal probably have some mixed feelings when they see this box.
