April 18 (Sports Direct) - Highlights of Thursday's Major League Baseball games

- - - - Brewers 7, Giants 2

Yovani Gallardo pitched six strong innings and hit his 11th career home run as Milwaukee completed a three-game sweep of visiting San Francisco.

Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy each added a two-run homer in support of Gallardo (1-1).

The right-hander, who was arrested for DUI early on Tuesday, belted a first-pitch fastball from Matt Cain into the Brewers bullpen in the second inning to provide a 5-0 lead and allowed a run and five hits on the mound.

Cain (0-2) surrendered three home runs and was knocked around for seven runs and seven hits in six innings as the Giants finished up a seven-game road trip with a 3-4 record.

Cubs 6, Rangers 2

Carlos Villanueva worked seven strong innings and Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer as Chicago earned a split of the rain-shortened two-game series with visiting Texas.

Alfonso Soriano added his first homer of the season during a four-run rally in the third and Luis Valbuena drove in two for the Cubs.

Villanueva (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six.

Rockies 11, Mets 3

Wilin Rosario, Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki drove in two runs apiece to lead Colorado to their sixth consecutive victory.

Eric Young Jr. and Carlos Gonzalez had three hits each and Tulowitzki, Dexter Fowler and Josh Rutledge hit solo homers to lead the offense.

Jon Garland (2-0) became the first Rockies starter to pitch seven innings this season, needing just 83 pitches while allowing two runs and six hits.

The temperature was 28F (-2C) at game time, which tied for the coldest game at Coors Field.

Mariners 2, Tigers 0

Hisashi Iwakuma pitched six strong innings and pinch-hitter Kyle Seager broke up a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the seventh to help Seattle clinch the three-game series.

Mariners leadoff hitter Endy Chavez had two hits, including an RBI single that drove in Seager in the seventh, and his diving catch in center helped finish off the Tigers in the ninth.

Iwakuma allowed three hits and Carter Capps (1-1) pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth before Tom Wilhelmsen retired the side in the ninth for his sixth save.

Blue Jays 3, White Sox 1

R.A. Dickey threw six shutout innings before leaving with neck and back tightness as host Toronto earned a split of its four-game series with Chicago.

Dickey (2-2) was removed as a precaution after just 64 pitches, limiting the White Sox to two hits while striking out seven.

Two relievers bridged the gap to Casey Janssen, who worked a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save.

Rajai Davis had a pair of hits, an RBI and two stolen bases to pace the Jays, who did all of their damage against Chicago starter Chris Sale (1-2).

Cardinals 4, Phillies 3

Carlos Beltran swatted a tiebreaking opposite-field homer to left in the eighth inning to lift visiting St. Louis past Philadelphia.

Yadier Molina had a two-run double and Adam Wainwright (3-1) allowed three runs and nine hits in seven innings as the Cardinals handed the Phillies their fourth straight defeat

Edward Mujica struck out pinch hitter Laynce Nix to end the eighth and worked out of a jam in the ninth for his first save.

Red Sox 6, Indians 3

Mike Napoli tripled, singled, scored two runs and drove in another to lead visiting Boston to its sixth consecutive win in the finale of the three-game series.

Jacoby Ellsbury also had two hits and scored two runs for the Red Sox, who are on their longest winning streak since taking six straight road games last April.

Boston left-hander Jon Lester (3-0) threw seven innings and allowed two runs and four hits while improving to 6-1 in his career against the Indians.

Indians catcher Carlos Santana had two hits and an RBI to boost his season average to .405.

Braves 6, Pirates 4

Evan Gattis hit a pinch-hit two-run homer to snap a tie in the eighth inning and lift visiting Atlanta to a win in the opener of a four-game set.

B.J. Upton, Justin Upton and Chris Johnson also homered for the Braves, who have won 11 of 12 games and are now 7-0 on the road.

Anthony Varvaro (1-0) earned the win with two perfect innings of relief of starter Julio Teheran, and Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save in as many chances.

Russell Martin and Pedro Alvarez clubbed solo homers and Garrett Jones collected two RBIs for Pittsburgh.

Reds 11, Marlins 1

Tony Cingrani worked five strong innings in his first major-league start while Todd Frazier homered and scored three times to lead Cincinnati to an easy win over visiting Miami.

Zack Cozart drove in a pair and Shin-Soo Choo added two hits, two runs and an RBI as the Reds won their fourth straight. Cingrani (1-0) struck out eight and allowed one run and five hits.

Justin Ruggiano hit a solo homer for the Marlins, whose 3-13 record is worst in the majors.

Orioles 10, Rays 6 (10)

Matt Wieters launched a game-ending grand slam to right field to help host Baltimore claim two of three from division rival Tampa Bay.

Nick Markakis led off the 10th with a single off Jamey Wright (0-1), Manny Machado beat out a bunt single and Adam Jones singled off the wall in right to load the bases before Wieters blasted a first-pitch slider from Brandon Gomes for a dramatic ending.

Troy Patton (1-0) earned the win by working a scoreless 10th.

The teams combined for seven home runs.

Diamondbacks 6, Yankees 2 (12)

Cody Ross pushed across the go-ahead run and Eric Chavez added a three-run double in the 12th as Arizona outlasted host New York to avoid a sweep in the three-game series.

The Diamondbacks loaded the bases on a double, catcher's interference and a hit batter with one out in the 12th before Ross slapped a single to left off David Phelps (0-1).

Chavez followed and drove a double to the center-field wall to clear the bases.

Heath Bell (1-0) worked a scoreless 11th to earn the win after Patrick Corbin had his seven-inning, two-hit performance undone by the bullpen.

Rookie Didi Gregorius and Martin Prado each added solo homers for Arizona. (Editing by Ben Everill)
