Dell XPS 10 and XPS Duo 12 Preview

Welcome to a laptop battery specialist of the dell laptop battery

Dell is one of the companies which disappointed me pretty hard when it comes to tablets past years. Their Streak series of Android slates wasn’t as successful as expected, maybe because Dell started with a 5 inch model. It wasn’t near as good as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.3, and the bigger 7 inch Streak didn’t do wonders either. Then it came the Dell Inspiron Duo, with an innovative hinge for rotating the screen from laptop to tablet mode, but mainly because of price and some odd design choices it wasn’t successful either.

Now Dell is once again throwing in some punches hoping to hit something. At IFA Berlin 2012 I’ve witnessed the launch of two Windows 8 tablets: Dell XPS 10 and XPS Duo 12. To me it is clear that what was shown on stage was nothing more than advanced prototypes, a pretty far cry from what we’ll be able to buy later this year, when these things will hit stores. Why? Because we weren’t allowed to handle the two prototypes, plus not much of the specs were released by Dell. So the entire announcement event was more like a pre-preview, if you will.

Anyway, it was enough to get an idea of what Dell has in mind with Windows 8, a product the company is expected to push forward, being one of the traditional Microsoft partners.

Dell XPS 10This is Dell’s Windows 8 RT tablet, so it’s powered by a dual core Snapdragon S4 CPU. The screeen is 10.1 inches in diagonal and features a typical 1366 x 768 HD Ready resolution. You will be able to buy a docking keyboard, with a second battery like dell 5819U battery , dell 2M400 battery , dell Precision M40 battery , dell Precision M50 battery , dell 3H625 battery , dell MT264 battery , dell Studio 15 battery , dell Studio 1536 battery , dell PP28L battery , dell RN887 batterydell Inspiron 700m battery , dell Inspiron 710m battery , just like the one on the ASUS Transformer series, but it’s unclear if Dell sees this as an optional accessory or a bundle deal. Battery life will be around 20 hours, 10 for tablet and 10 for the dock. Design borrows heavily from the current XPS lineup, which becomes obvious when you take a look at the chiclet keyboard and the plastic finish of the case. The docking hinge looks a little bit worse than the original Transformer TF101, a sign Dell has to work on it more.

Dell says this is a perfect product for business users, but I doubt that statement, since Windows RT can’t run typical desktop x86 apps. Maybe I’m wrong and every Windows developer out there is working as we speak to make their apps ARM compatible. No word on availability and pricing, except the tablet will be here this year, at a competitive price with similar offerings.
