From my testing, 2.72 is a bit slower than 2.71 when rendering. Also Windows and Mac OS X versions are slower than the Linux version. All three are slower than a custom compiled version. The caveat being they're slower than a gcc 4.8 compiled version binary on Ubuntu 14.04. Also compiled one on FreeBSD 10 using llvm 3.3. This binary is slower than the official one for Linux.
