On November 17, Masaaki Kanai, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited China and will meet with Liu Jinsong, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Kanai will explain that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks on Taiwan have not changed Japan's consistent position, emphasizing that even with differences in stance, people-to-people exchanges should not be affected. This move by Japan is an attempt to "put out the fire" of Takaichi's erroneous remarks. The Taiwan issue is a core interest of China, and Japan should demonstrate sincerity in respecting the facts, rather than offering verbal explanations. It is hoped that this meeting will help Japan recognize its position and earnestly safeguard the overall situation of China-Japan relations.
