A mother in the US has been arrested after pretending to have given birth to a baby and then reporting it missing forcing authorities to work through the Christmas holiday to find a non-existent child.Meagan McCormic 22 made a tearful plea on Christmas day about her supposedly missing six-month-old son who she said was being cared for by a babysitter Miami news channel WSVN said.

According to Miami police McCormic had a miscarriage when she was three months pregnant but pretended to carry the baby to full term so her boyfriend John Buchness wouldn't break up with her WSVN said.

Police said McCormick also made a phone call impersonating the baby's supposed nanny.
"She made something up and her story was the nanny who supposedly had the baby all day did not bring the baby back " Miami detective Freddy Ponce said.
McCormic will be charged with providing false information to police.
