It's a small but growing effort. Provo Fashion Week hosted it's second bi-annual show this weekend featuring designers from across the state of Utah parading their work in the Provo Library ballroom.
Local fashionistas, bloggers, families of models and community leaders gathered in the upper floors of the library Friday evening wearing their cocktail best and waited hours in anticipation of the VIP show to begin.
"There's a lot of fashion-loving people in Provo, so we're trying to get them involved," Workman said. "There aren't a lot of opportunities for designers in Utah, but there are a lot of designers in Utah. I don't think the public knows, so we're trying to get the word out. ... Fashion is a thing in Provo."
Models strutted the catwalks, some even en pointe as designer Nephi Garcia had ballerinas model his latest works down the runway, during Friday's VIP show featuring 12 Utah designers.
Designs ranged from bridal and menswear to children's and read-to-wear. Multiple designers featured clothing adorned with tassels and a plethora of the color white. Elegant and trendy pencil skirts were not in short supply, as the show's co-producer Natalie Workman featured a number in her own collection -- Natalie Wynn Design. According to Wynn, her designs this go around were inspired by the architecture in Europe.
With the production and show is in its youth, there were obvious kinks still to be worked out as some shows dragged out for hours while last-minute setup was completed and models were prepped. However, the efforts to increase regional exposure for local designers is well underway as organizers of the event continue to grow the show.
"We're very excited about the turnout. ... We're hoping to grow everyone's brand and awareness for fashion," Provo Fashion Week co-producer and designer Bree Wilkins said.
