米格付け会社スタンダード・アンド・プアーズ（Ｓ＆Ｐ）は２日、米長期国債の格付けを 最上位の「ＡＡＡ（トリプルＡ）」から１段階引き下げて「ＡＡ＋（ダブルＡプラス）」に格下げした、 と発表した。大手格付け会社が米国債を格下げするのは初めて。

英文は英国エコノミスト誌から。S&Pが米国の財政赤字の計算を誤っていたとのことが明らかになったとはいえ、アメリカは米国債引き下げという事態を真摯に受け止めなければいけないと主張している。

The messenger may be flawed, but the United States should take heed of the message.
