Rep Bottega Veneta outlet. Devin Nunes is wrong on the facts in "Ending California's man-made drought," Open Forum, March 6.

HR1837 is a massive theft of public water. The bill allows for water privatization to enrich a handful of agribusinesses in a move that makes Wall Street bankers look like pikers. Our entire industry was closed in 2008, 2009 and most of 2010, due to salmon runs decimated by water projects, costing thousands of jobs and a quarter billion dollars annually.

Existing protections helped fish species rebound last year without diverting water away from agribusiness. In fact, state and federal water projects still divert as much water from the delta as they did from 1980 to 2000. Interim protections adopted in 1994 do not reflect scientific and environmental realities to meet current and future water needs, and will not sustain a healthy delta.

Over the past decade, fishermen, farmers, elected officials, business leaders, water districts and environmentalists have developed solutions to balance the water needs of farms, cities and to protect imperiled native fish species. Improved water use efficiency, water recycling and storm-water capture create trillions of gallons of new water for cities and agriculture.

Let's work toward real solutions to balance California's water needs.
