We begin our first move around Norway. We leave on the Norwegian regional road Rv92. Behind the village of Karasjok, the European road E6 will follow, which starts in Oslo, the capital of Norway. We enter the most northern region (county) of Norway - Finnmark. The areas (provinces) in Norway are called the fylke. The track is very picturesque. Again, turn north and take a course towards the Barents Sea. Our move will end in the small Norwegian city of Laxelv, the administrative center of the municipality of Porsanger last town on the way to the North Cape. In Laxelwe, we will already see the first Norwegian fjord - Porsangerfjord, which belongs to the water area of the Barents Sea. Vegetation became low. Increasingly, dwarf trees are already found. And the height of the forests became smaller - with every kilometer the Arctic tundra is getting closer. And in the tundra forests do not grow. And the warm sun does not shine at all. All day long.
The sections of the regional route Rv92 and the European route E6 connect the municipality in the north of Lapland with the village of Karigasniemi and the administrative center of the municipality of Porsanger in the county Finnmark in the city of Laxelv.

So, we are on the border of Finland and Norway. The last settlement that we met in Finland is the Saami village of Karigasniemi. The population of Karagasniemi is only 300 people, more than half of them are indigenous Saami - a small northern people. On the other side of the river Anarjokka is already Norway. We bid farewell to hospitable Finland, the country where we spent most of our trip and are preparing for a meeting with Norway! Karigasniemi (finn Karigasniemi, Saami, Gáregasnjárga) is a village in the north of Finland, in the community of Utsjoki in the province of Lapland. Located on the border with Norway, 18 km southeast of the Norwegian city of Karasjok, on the banks of the Anarjokka River, which connects to the south of the village with the river Karasjokka, forming a salmon-rich river Tanaelv. The distance to the administrative center of the community, the village of Utsjoki, is 102 km. The village is on the road between Finnish Ivalo and the Norwegian city of Laxelv. The population of the village lives mainly due to cross-border trade and tourism. The brisk trade is due to higher prices on the Norwegian side of the border. The population of Karagasniemi is about 300 people, more than half of them are Saami.

Our trip to Finland is drawing to a close. We had to make the last transfer to the border with Norway - to the village of Karigasniemi. From Inari to Karigasniemi 100 kilometers. We continue to drive to Kaamanen village along the E75 road. In Kaamanen we turn to the west, to the regional road No. 92. We will go to Karagasniemi by it, and then we will cross the border with Norway.

After almost 200 kilometers of driving, we enter a small village of Inari. Inari is the unofficial capital of the Finnish Saami, a nationality that lives in the north of Finland and in Norway. In Finland, the Saami even have their own parliament, and it is in Inari. The village is located on the shore of the same name lake Inari. To imagine approximately how far the village is to the north, I inform - Inari is located approximately at the latitude of Russian Murmansk. It's already very far to the north! The village is so small that only one thousand people live in it. Inari (Inari, inari-Saami, Aanaar, kauntta-Saami, Aanar, Saami, Anár, Swede Enare) is a settlement (a village, sometimes called Inari, also called a village or a village) in the Finnish community of the same name (Lapland province ), The administrative center of this community. Inari is located 30 kilometers north of Saariselkä, one of the largest tourist centers in Lapland. About one thousand people live in the village and its surroundings. People have long lived where the village now stands - next to the place where the Juutuanjoki River, breaking into dozens of channels, flows into Lake Inari. Occupying a favorable geographical position, the village gradually became the center of local trade. In 1876, when the Inari community was founded, the village became the administrative center of the community. Inari is a settlement in which three cultures simultaneously develop - Finnish, Northern Sami and Inari-Saami. In Inari is the Saami Parliament of Finland - an elected representative body of cultural self-government of the Saami of Finland. Due to its location Inari is an important tourist center, a large number of tourist buses stop here, including those heading towards Norway or vice versa.

We leave for one of the longest journeys in the north of Finland. As much as 200 kilometers we will go to the north of Finland, admire the beautiful pine forests and clear lakes! Our goal will be a small village of Inari, which is located on the shore of the lake of the same name, the largest in Finland. The polar northern nature is unusually beautiful in the summer. The sun does not go beyond the horizon, the whole day is a polar day.

Sodankylä is a small town in the north of Finland. There live only 9 thousand people. But the city is interesting because there is a geophysical laboratory on its territory. And the neighboring village of Tankavaara 150 years ago was the real gold mine of Finland. There was the same gold rush here. As in America. Sodankylä (Finnish Sodankylä, Saami, Soađegilli) is a community in the north of Finland, located in the province of Lapland. The area of the community is 12 415.46 km ² In November 2011, Anglo American announced the discovery of a large (globally) copper-nickel deposit in the Sodankyla community. The Sodankylä community, together with the communities of Inari and Utsjoki, is the initiator of the "Arctic Corridor" project for the construction of a railway from Rovaniemi to Kirkenes. One of the scientific radar stations EISCAT is located near the city, at the site of the geophysical laboratory Sodankyla. In Sodankyla there is an ancient wooden church (1689) - open to visitors in the summer, a new church and a museum of local lore. One of the attractions is also the village and museum of gold diggers Tankavaara, located near the city. Since 1986, in Sodankylä, every year in June, Aki and Mika Kaurismäki and Anssi Mänttari founded the "Midnight Sun" film festival. In the north of the territory of the community there is a reservoir of Locke with an area of more than 200 km².

Our further journey will already pass beyond the Arctic Circle. Simply put, in the Finnish Arctic. The next move will be 130 km long. Our goal is the small town of Sodankylä. It's already light day and night! The sun does not go beyond the horizon. And the further we move north from the Arctic Circle, the brighter will be the polar day! Outside the car window the nature is already typically northern and severe. And with every kilometer to the north the vegetation is getting poorer. But the forests still stretch along the road. Very beautiful north of Finland! We are waiting for the capital of Lapland and the birthplace of Santa Claus, the city of Rovaniemi! Just 8 km north of the city center is the village of Santa Claus. It is commonly believed that Rovaniemi is the birthplace of Santa Claus. Before you go further north, be sure to visit there! There is a village in Santa Park. This is a whole complex of entertainment. By the way, in Finnish Santa Claus is called quite differently - Joulupukki (Finnish Santa Claus). It is in the village of Santa Claus that the Polar Circle passes. Right in the center of the village of Santa Claus. It turns out very interesting - the hotel in the village is, for example, 200 m south of the Arctic Circle, and the restaurant is already beyond the Arctic Circle! In Rovaniemi, the summer heat is quite rare. The temperature of 20 degrees is already considered the norm. The city has 60 thousand people. Rovaniemi (Finnish Rovaniemi, Inari-Saami, Ruávinjarg, Saamsk, Roavvenjárga or Roavenjárga and kaтtta-Saami.) Ruä'vnjargg is a city and municipality in Finland, the administrative center of Lappi Province. After the merger in 2006 with the Rovaniemi rural municipality, Rovaniemi became the twelfth largest city in Finland and the largest city in Europe. The city of Rovaniemi is located 8 km south of the Arctic Circle, at the confluence of two large northern rivers - Ounasjoki and Kemijoki. Rovaniemi is the largest city in Europe in terms of area, 8,016 square kilometers, due to the inclusion of nearby territories in the city. From September to March in the vicinity of the city you can observe the aurora borealis. The oldest settlement on the site of the modern city dates back to the 11th century [2]. The first mention of the city dates back to 1453. The name comes from the Saami "roavve", which means a forested hill. Since its foundation, Rovaniemi has become a rapidly developing settlement, the center for the development of trade and education in the region. At the beginning of the XIX century, the city received an additional impetus for development in connection with the increased interest in Lapland's natural resources. New settlers were attracted by large logging and timber-gathering. "Gold Rush" has caused even more interest in the city. As a result, Rovaniemi became a major economic center of the province [3]. In 1944, during the Lapland War, the city was destroyed almost to the ground by German troops under the command of Colonel-General Lothar Rendulich, but after the war was restored. In 1960, Rovaniemi received the status of a city. In 1970 the city became the venue for the 6th Winter Universiade. A special role in the formation of the architecture of Rovaniemi belongs to Alvar Aalto. Thanks to him in the city there were such facilities as the city administration building, the theater and the library. In Rovaniemi there are art galleries, museums, and other cultural buildings. In Rovaniemi is the most northern university in Finland and the EU - the University of Lapland. In Rovaniemi is located the famous village of Santa Claus right on the Arctic Circle. The population of the city is 60 thousand people.

We are waiting for an exciting transfer to the homeland of Santa Claus - Lapland. And now we are heading to that city, near which, in fact, Santa Claus lives - the city of Rovaniemi, the administrative center of Lapland. Rovaniemi (10 km to the north) already has the Arctic Circle. Arriving home Santa Claus, we will not go at night - now there is a polar day. And the sun will not go over the horizon in clear weather. And the farther north, the longer the polar day will be!
