Redcoats rule SOSSA AAA boys volleyball
ST. CATHARINES
Rob Scott is everything to the Governor Simcoe Redcoats senior boys volleyball team.
is our captain, Rob is our cheerleader and Rob is an all around great player, Simcoe coach Ken Riediger said. nothing more you can ask of the guy from serving to spiking to motivation. He got it all. 17 year old was at his best Wednesday helping Governor Simcoe capture the SOSSA AAA championship with a 3 0 win (25 12, 25 17 and 25 19) over Sherwood before a noisy crowd in its home gym.
It was a huge win for the Grade 12 student and his ecstatic teammates.
hasn gone to OFSAA in a decade and I don know what to say, the 6 foot 4 player said. am at a loss for words. he may suffer from a word shortage during interviews, Scott always has plenty to say on court to his team.
lot of guys on our team don like to get fired up and going, he said. always try to make a point of clapping for and encouraging everyone else and trying to get the energy level up. is in his first year of playing club volleyball with the Randy Bullock Jersey Guelph Grizzlies and the University of Guelph has already expressed an interest in the talented player.
Riediger expects Scott to make a smooth transition to university ball.
a left handed guy which is hard to find, especially with his height and his ability, he said.
To play at the next level, Scott feels he needs to work on his mental toughness.
what I need to work on the most, he said.
That mental toughness was the theme in Simcoe play Wednesday. Talking to his team Tuesday, Riediger stressed the squad needed to be mentally tough to have success at SOSSA.
can be a great team but if you don have the mental toughness, you don follow through and come through, he said. boys really came through today. described his team play as excellent.
played so well together and I don think we had one single letdown, he said. From the beginning of the day, Riediger knew his team was ready to play.
were pumped and ready to go today. the season started, Scott felt the Redcoats were capable of qualifying for OFSAA.
(Blanchette) transferred from Eden last year and couldn play last year, he said. had him this year and we had a good feeling at the start of this year. believes the Redcoats will be more than just participants in the school first OFSAA appearance since 2002 or 2003.
