Cold we were

Last twelvemonth over and done with 350,000 of us were put to death

clubbed or shot, hunters forever took away our breath

Close to our mothers, mendacious here in the snow

we were but babes and we could not know

When premiere we glimpsed the ships on the water cold

we were unafraid, not thinking they'd be so bold

But onto the ice and done our onshore the men strode

breaching our nursery, and entering our family fold

As they approached we looked on, not sufficiently expert to understand

the expressions on their faces, the firepower in their hands

At opening we didn't stir, but later the men toward us ran

it without delay became a slaughter and we were the lambs

This was our most basic revelation to humans, staffs and guns

as we looked up, they swiftly struck us next to their clubs

Some of us didn't die from the blows-we were single stunned

our long whist static hitting as they injured us, spilling our blood

Later, the parents or holdfast babies who managed to survive

moved on the ice and burgundy snow, in disbelief, and cried

Grieving for the mislaid ones whose fur-less bodies lay so still

not wise if the grouping would be back, or if they'd had their cram...

To a future, wherever "their fill" is gone and past

a pledge to standstill the killing, an cuss that will later.
