Going to Jiburi Museum
I went to Jiburi Museum together with my friend. Jiburi is founded by Hayao Miyazaki, one of the greatest animation producers in Japan. The animations of Jiburi told me a lot of important aspects of society and culture in Japan. I have watched “Sen-to-Chihiro’s mysterious disappearance” many times in my life. This is one of my favorite movies. Sen to Chihiro’s mysterious represents Japanese society very well. This is because in the movie, it can be found that elderly people control younger people. For example, Yubaba tried to force anybody to follow her. In addition, in the movie, there is a scene that Chihiro works at Onsen. Her work is miscellaneous. Those scenes are like nenkoujoretsu,年功序列 in Japanese society which means ‘seniority’. This tradition has recently been seen as harmful to company because those who are young but have good skills are less likely to be valued. In the movie, Yubaba finally failed to have a control, so from this, it can be found that seniority is not useful for an organization. Compared with Disney, I feel that Disney makes us happy or enjoy the life through magic, whereas Jiburi tells us what is problem in our society, specifically in Japan. What I want to say here is not that Jiburi is superior to Disney, but that through the animation of Jiburi, we can recognize what we should consider. (237)
