HP laptop explodes

Welcome to a laptop battery specialist of the Hp laptop battery

On Waitangi Day, Auckland woman Leah Light's HP dv9500 laptop exploded on her kitchen bench and set fire to the kitchen with flames higher than her head, she said.

On the morning of February 6th, Mrs Light had been using the laptop in bed, plugged into the AC wall socket. She then unplugged it to carry it through to the kitchen. The laptop battery had been losing capacity over a period of time and at that point was no longer able to hold a charge, so the laptop shut down immediately.

After placing the laptop on the kitchen bench, Mrs Light left the room to begin some housework. She turned on her home stereo, but within what she estimates was a minute or two, she heard an explosion that dwarfed the sound from the stereo.

"I thought a bomb had gone off, or the ceiling had collapsed in my dining room. I didn't know what to think."

She returned to the kitchen to find flames leaping higher than her head. "I'd never seen a fire like that before, let alone in my kitchen," she said, "and I had to put it out myself."

"What if my kids had been in there, or if it had still been on my bed."

Mrs Light had rung the HP hotline in the week previous to complain about the problem with her battery like Hp pavilion dv6000 battery (Hp dv6000 battery )Hp Pavilion dv8000 battery (Hp dv8000 battery ), Hp HSTNN-DB20 battery , Hp 395789-001 battery , Hp 396008-001 battery , Hp Pavilion dv9000 battery (Hp dv9000 battery )but had been told that because the laptop was recently out of warranty, nothing could be done. She asked to speak to a manager to lodge a complaint but the call centre operator said no such person was available. At this point Mrs Light said that she should be covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act as the laptop was little more than a year old. The call centre operator said he knew nothing about that as he was located in India. Mrs Light asked to speak a New Zealand representative but was told this was not possible.

Hewlett Packard has now shipped the laptop to New York for testing but is not at this point accepting liability for the fire that appears to have been started by the laptop's battery.
