AGSM offering unique classes
New instructors will share their knowledge and skills during the fall art school term at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba.
Printmaking is a littleknown art medium in Brandon, but starting Sept. 24, artists Basma Kavanagh and Shannon Leitch will instruct students in the art of making prints by pressing paper against an inked surface so as to make multiple originals of the same drawing.
You can plan and play and experiment, you can study deeply Dustin Keller Authentic Jersey or dabble, and whichever approach you take, it will transform your perception of your work, Kavanagh said.
Kavanagh and Leitch each bring a wealth of experience and new techniques in their respective art practices.
Kavanagh is a published poet and selftaught artist in printmaking and artist books. She has participated in numerous residencies across the country and abroad. For most of the spring and summer, she was able to use the AGSM printmaking studio to continue her work as she settled into Brandon, having relocated here from Nova Scotia.
Her recent exhibition in the AGSM TMs Community Gallery led her to experiment in threedimensional forms for the first Dustin Keller Black Jersey time, bringing together printmaking and sculpture.
We were just so happy to have Basma here every day. She really got people interested in printmaking again and had quite the informal following by the end of the summer, said art educator Chris Cooper.
Meanwhile, Leitch comes to Brandon from Hawaii, where she earned her MFA. She has an extensive exhibition record and will also be teaching sessionally in Brandon University TMs visual art program.
Our art school strives to give every adult participant a real art education in a low stress environment. We hire only working artists for our adult program, some come http://www.dolphinsofficialnflstore.com with masters degrees and all come with amble experience as instructors for students new to art, said executive director Jennifer Woodbury.
The AGSM TMs art school continues to offer popular five to 10week classes in pottery, drawing, painting, bookmaking and digital photography with wellknown Manitoba artists Kevin Conlin, Mary Lowe, Chris Reid, Elaine Rounds and Rob Lovatt.
Register early, especially for the pottery classes, they fill up fast, just like our kids TM classes, Cooper says.
