4 defense changes draft dynamic
The PressGazette's Pete Dougherty assesses the linebacker position in the second segment of his eightpart draft series. A total of 13 teams in the NFL now run the 34 defense, including the Packers, and that has changed the dynamic around draft time.
As Pete points out, one of the reasons the 34 has become attractive is it avails a large pool of prospects from college football who have limited value in a 43: the undersized defensive ends who can play the two key outside linebacker positions in the 34.
Meanwhile, Rob Demovsky analyzes all 43 draft picks made by Ted Thompson and separates the studs from the duds. All told, Rob gives 13 picks a thumbs up and 24 players a thumbs down. Hawk with the fifth overall pick in 2006. Rob gives Hawk a thumbs down, while I say he should get a thumbs up because he has started for the past three years. It's true Hawk hasn't made the kind of impact some would expect from a player drafted that high. Still, there were a number of busts high in that draft and Hawk wasn't one of them. The biggest knock against him is that he's not a great player.
Speaking of busts high in the draft, I take a look at the Packers' checkered past in selecting top10 picks. A whopping 6 out of 10 picks were busts going back over the past 30 years. the whole team is rather drab with no identity to speak of.

You want an impact player? His name is Greg Jennings! You know as well as I that he can blow up at any point on the field and take it for a TD. That and the fact he was double teamed most of the year says he's Brandon Gibson Authentic Jersey an impact guy. Weird?

Pro Bowl is only about popularity! It's not a very reputable judge of a good player. Jennings finished
5th in the NFC in receptions and yards, and 6th in the NFC in TD's. In case you can't do math that's 6 out of 28 starting WR's. He alos finished 6th overall in the NFL in Yds and 8th in TD's. That is impact!!
And I already know your comeback of 610 huh huh huh. As I've stated, you can't judge individuals when using the overall record of the team. If you want to talk about the team it's one thing. When talking about the impact of Jennings though he definitely is towards the top in the league.
