Mr. Neil Faust, Alumni Club President, gave a warm welcome to University Alumni
who came to celebrate the visit of Professor Hortacsu to Tokyo. He also requested
Alumni to continue their support of the University and the Alumni Clubs in Japan.

Mr. Michael Case, Alumni Club Director, gave a brief report on Club Activities, and requested
everyone to keep their calendars open for upcoming events on September 15th, the Booth GLS
Event with Prof. Thaler, and the October 10th, Family outing to Oktoberfest in Yokohama, and
also not to forget the regular 3rd Thursday night of the Month Social at Hobgoblin in Roppongi.
Prof. Ali Hortacsu
Professor Hortacsu is an industrial organization economist and one of the
foremost experts on e-commerce and operations. He has worked extensively in the
design and empirical evaluation of market mechanisms utilized in deregulated
electricity markets, and in e-commerce. Professor Hortacsu is the recipient of an
NSF CAREER Award and an Alfred P. Sloan fellowship. He has served as a coeditor
of the International Journal of Industrial Organization, and an associate
editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics.
Prof. Hortacsu made a presentation on the topic of Industrial
Organization Research at the University of Chicago.
Approximately 20 alumni covering a wide array of disciplines came
out to welcome Professor Hortacsu to Tokyo.

This day is the 106th anniversary of the graduation of Eiji Asasda who was the first Ph.D
Graduate of the University of Chicago.
18 Alumni attended this event including the Great Grandson of Dr. Asada.
