"Have the gumption to try something new, and the grit to see it through."

I create a space for my passions in my daily life.
-------------------------------------------------------
A hobby of mine that has recently surfaced is learning more about history. Particularly military history. Back in high school, I was never really into anything of the sort. But I feel like as my ambitions have been well defined, the development of this interest is natural. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone violence in any way. But there are a lot of things that people don't know about what happens in a war; the conditions of the battles fought, how they come into play in the outcome, and how the strategic, operational, and tactical level of war are carried out. Watching documentaries and movies has helped me to understand a lot of what goes on in the tactical level, where battles and engagements are planned and executed to reach an objective assigned to task forces. The lingo used in their way of communication has also become familiar to me, so it's easy to understand what exactly it is they are trying to communicate. As such, I have a new level of admiration for those who were and those who still are involved in wars and violent conflict for the sake of freedom. Books I have read and are in the process of reading include...
The Art of War - Sun Tzu
The Book of Five Rings - Miyamoto Musashi
The Prince - Niccolo Machiavelli
And perhaps my favorite., although I don't quite recall the name, but it's something like...
The Commander's Field Guide for Operations
I have a relative of mine to blame for this sudden interest. We're planning on going to the shooting range again for more practice. I always love going there; and without a doubt, out of all the guns I have used, the M1911 pistol is my favorite. Can't wait!
Aside from military history, I have suddenly developed an interest in Italian history. Imagine that. Well I had always been fascinated with Rome and the Vatican. Anything that is religious, really (although I myself am not really a religious person -----> Buddhist). After reading through a few informative articles, I centered on the life of Pope Alexander VI and his family, the Borgias. They are a corrupt family mired in blood, lust, and sin, and has been considered as the first criminal family in history. I found a mini-series about their family.... it's on my check-list, so before this summer is over, I have to watch it.
But enough of my ramblings. It's hard to talk about this sort of thing to people because they have absolutely no idea what I am talking about or they simply aren't interested. To each their own, I suppose. I am wholeheartedly content with it.
Looking forward to the weekend! Where surprises and celebrations await. I cannot be happier
