With about 900 parts the Chanel manually wound movement is amazing. The watch
needed something a bit more fancy, so Chanel added a running week counter (which
tracks which of the year's 52 weeks you are in). In addition to that I think
that this piece unique model improves on the dial of the Chanel watch in most
every way. The dial is nicer, the hands are more attractive, the design is more
polished, the colors are more luxurious, and the case overall is pretty awesome.
It is like a celestial temple on your wrist. Why wasn't the production version

The 47mm wide case is
in 18k pink gold and the client wanted custom engraved animals around the sides
of it. These are meant to represent the Chanel zodiac characters and look really
nicely done. There is more gold on the dial, and all that lovely engraving and
texturing (the dial itself is 18k white gold and hand machine guilloche
engraved). I like the dauphine hour and minute hands much more than those on the
Chanel model. So what does the Chanel watch do? well the in-house made Chanel
movement does a lot actually - couldn't you tell? It has the time, seconds via
the tourbillon, power reserve indicator for time, minute repeater (with cool
bezel activator), power reserve for minute repeater, second timezone, moon phase
indicator (lovely looking), perpetual calendar with day, date, month, leap year
indicator, week in year indicator, sunrise time, sunset time, equation of time,
and a celestial sky chart.
Some of those latter functions are set to a
specific city - which of course the Chanel owner set. What an amazing watch.
According to Chanel it took over 20 experts to create this one watch. I don't
even want to think of the price, but I am really jealous as this watch is
totally amazing. This not-so-little-guy on the auction block in a few decades
will no doubt fetch a mint. Chanel recently announced a new version of their
watch that came out about two years ago. The great looking piece is probably one
of my top pics from the brand at this time and now is featured in an even more
sporty skin. This version is done in collection with the Chanel. Beyond that i
guess a new watch will be made?
The rear of the watch has new engraved on
the back. Chanel is the officially timekeeper for the boat race events. In the
race Chanel is also the official sponsor of the Chanel. Interesting that they
sponsor the event and one of the teams. The titanium case and carbon fiber dial
look good together and feel fitting with the high-end racing boats. These
performance machines operate thanks to very capable sailors and seconds count
when needed to start the race. While not a traditional regatta timer, the first
10 minutes of the chronograph counter are specially colored to help with
calculating how much time before the race starts.
Interestingly enough
the Chanel is an around-the-world race. I am not sure exactly how that works
out, but it is a pretty grueling event for the sailors (best to have a nice
watch). Though of course the majority of these watches will go on the Chanel of
non-sailors who admire their work. The watch case is 45. 4mm wide and here in
titanium. It has a sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 60 meters. Through
the rear of the watch you can see the very pretty in-house made Chanel automatic
movement. There are two hands in the upper chronograph register, which allows
this to be a full 12 hour chronograph, but enjoy the good look of only two
subdials. The movement has a power reserve of almost three days. The watch comes
attached to a black rubber strap (love that strong looking clasp).
