Taketori was been told in early time of Heian era.
(It is said that this story was told during AD800 through AD1000.)

Taketori is said to be the oldest story in Japan.

Summary
In at old age, old husband and wife was living in somewhere in a mountain.
They had no children.
One day, old man found shining bamboo in the forest.
He cut the shinign bamboo.
and then thumbs size(≒9cm) tiny infant was there inside the bamboo.
She was a girl. She named "Kaguya" (nayotake no kaguya)
He took the infant back to home and raised her with great care.
She blossomed into a beautiful young woman with only 3months.
As her growth, family has become wealthy.
Nobles in the city caught the rumor of her beautifulness.
Five nobles made a marriage proposal to her.
She claimed them some gifts whiche are too much difficult to obtain.
Nobles tried to get those items but they all failed.
During those situations, Emperor also heard her rumor.
Emperor tried to meet her, but he couldn't meet her.
