数年越しに、何事もなかったかのように投稿します。
先日、劇団四季のミュージカル”Wicked”を観たので、今回はその代表曲Defying Gravityと原文と劇団四季版の訳詞を比較したいと思います。
※ちょっと長いので、セリフ等に当たる部分は省略しました。すみませんm(_ _)m

*ミュージカル版ではyou can't pull me downとなっている部分が、音源化の際にyou can't bring me downとなっています。
ミュージカル版に出てくるフレーズThey'll never bring us downやIsever gonna bring me downを吸収させた形でしょうか。

直訳なら、「愛を失うことをずっと恐れてきた、いやもう失っているのかも。もし失ったのが愛ならば、あまりにも大きな代償だ」ということでしょうか。訳詞は「信じた道を進むのよ」とまとめていて、次のフレーズ「I'd sooner buy～」(重力に逆らうように自由になったほうが良い）まで加味した訳なのだと思います。
メロディー、リズムに合わせて日本語の訳詞を当てるとき、1行 対 1行で見比べると「全然違うじゃん！」と思ってしまいがちですが、フレーズ対フレーズ、ないしは1曲かけて意味が訳されているようにする、というのがセオリーだそうですね。

エルファバが後に「西の悪い魔女」とされるため、「私を見つけたいのなら西の空を見て」と言っています。
