Tokyo Tower, standing at 1,091 feet, is easily visible at night from many areas of Tokyo. Having seen photos of the tower as well as simply seeing it at many random times while commuting, it still wasn’t until winter vacation that I finally decided to visit it firsthand with Michiko, who was visiting Tokyo from Akita for
her vacation. We didn’t take the time to look at a map for the best way to get there, but rather we we got off the train near Nihonbashi, walked out on to the street, and started walking towards the tower. Nihonbashi, as we had noticed earlier that day while visiting the Imperial Palace, seemed to be the closest area to Tokyo Tower that either of us had been to. It was a cold winter night, and we had the pleasure of passing many displays of holiday lights for both Christmas and the New Year. Walking at a brisk pace, we came to realize after a good ten to fifteen minutes that we still seemed to be nowhere near to being any closer to Tokyo Tower. Both of us being in good shape, we eventually began to run, fearing we would waste too much time otherwise. We ran and ran and ran, realizing that looks can be deceiving and that in fact Tokyo Tower was much farther from Nihonbashi that we first thought.
We went through parks, winding roads and side-streets, occasionally losing sight of the tower as
we got closer and found ourselves surrounded by other tall buildings. Finally though, we came through a park and found we had arrived. There was a great celebration going on at the base of the tower. A band played, there were television crews filming, and hundreds of people seemed to have gathered to see the tower. It was a bit perplexing and also a bit surreal, and we wondered aloud if this was a normal sight at Tokyo Tower. Then on looking closer at the sings people had in the groups that had amassed, we realized that the “Tokyo 50” written in lights on the tower itself was because by random luck, Michiko and I had stumbled onto the Tokyo Tower 50th anniversary celebration. What an amazing coincidence, we agreed with one another, still in mild astonishment.
こんにちは皆さん トリーマー・ブログのトリスタンです。トリスタンってどんな言葉でしょうか？昨日電子辞書で色々な言葉を調べながら他の意味を見つけた。僕の意見について、もちろん一番目のは僕の名前だけど、ローマ字で日本の略語だ。Ｔ．Ｒ．Ｉ．Ｓ．Ｔ．Ａ．Ｎ．ってものすごく難しくて詳しい意味を持ってて、英語でTransposable Ring Intersecting Storage Accelerators in Nipponと言うよ。おかしいね～・・・英語でＮｉｐｐｏｎって僕たちは全然言わないと思う。そのとりすたんって何だろうかな～ エネルギーについて物かも。
