＜あらすじ＞

喜怒哀楽の感情を表現することが制限され、色がない白黒の社会に住むジョーナス。この社会に住む人々は痛みや苦痛など知らず、ある歳になると職業が与えられる、規律の整った理想社会だ。そこでジョーナスに与えられた職業は「記憶を受け継ぐ者」という、この社会で一番大切な職業だった。彼は「記憶を伝える者」から記憶を受け継ぐと、理想社会の裏に隠された真意に気づく。皆が失っている記憶や感情を取り戻そうと、彼は行動を起こす。

＜感想＞

この本は注意を払って読まないとついていけなくなってしまう、難しい本だと思う。チャプターの最後には次に何が起きるか気になる終わり方が多く、人によってはスラスラと読めるかもしれない。本は読まずに映画を見るのだったら、大体のストーリーを理解していないと映画を見る時に理解が難しい。

The book I am going to introduce today is

"The Giver" by Louis Lowry.

The society Jonas lives in are peaceful. There is no color when he sees the world, it is just black and white. All of the people who live in this Community cannot see colors. They do not feel pain or love and the weather is always sunny. The Community calls this "Sameness". When he was selected as "The Reciever of Memory" for his job, he meets "The Giver" who stores all of the past memories before Sameness started. Jonas's job is to recieve the memory and one day become "The Giver" and give away those memories to the next "The Reciever". However when he recieves those memories, he is confused by all the new emotions he has never had. The Community lacks all color, climate and memory to build equality and to prevent war and fights. So when Jonas realizes people in the Community has a right to know what the Community lacks, he tries to regain the right and by this, almost losing his own life.

Made into a movie in 2014

Altough this book has very few pages, it was hard for me to read because there were many hard vocabularies. If you are going to watch the movie and not read the book, I suggest you at least know the gist of this story or else you will not be able to understand the movie.
