私が十代の頃、スライの国内盤って廃盤状態だったように思う。それどころか傑作とされる作品（外盤）でさえ、それほど目にしなかった。たまたま行きつけのレコ屋数件に、置いてなかっただけかもしれないが。今となっては、正確なところ「どうだったか？」等は、どうでもよろしい。
このアルバムを見つけ出したとき「これが噂に聞く、あの人のレコードか！」と感激したものだった。それまで殆ど耳にしてないということは、イメージが途轍もなく肥大化するもので、完全に「伝説のミュージシャン」という位置付けになっていた。今作は私にとって、初めてのスライ作品。実にタイトル通りのフレッシュな出会いなのだ。十代の終わりに、なんとか輸入レコードのカット盤（そうそう、軽い怪我をした際に貼ったりするやつ）で入手した・・・
