In 2017, after finishing work at a thrift shop in Dublin, Ireland, I decided to join the French Foreign Legion. They are a regiment of French troops that accept foreign applicants. To join the French Foreign Legion, simply travel to Paris and knock on the door.
I was planning to take a rest overnight at the hotel and then travel to join the Fort Dunoigent (corps barracks). However, my bank account was locked, so this adventure was immediately hit by a disaster. The bank couldn't explain to me why this happened, and instead of bravely marching to the corps barracks, I negotiated with my bank instead and reconverted the funds to pay for the hotel. .. Joining the military is a big change in life. I didn't want to have the additional pressure of knowing that I don't have a bank account. And alas. I had no choice but to stay in a cheap hotel until it was repaired.
It's neither the best beginning of an adventure nor the best beginning of a holiday ... but there was no reason not to take some pictures. The area I stayed in was called Gare du Nord and the hotel was near the station not far from the famous Montmartre Sacred Heart Cathedral. I don't have a picture of the cathedral here because I had a terrible sense of direction and didn't know it was there at the time. There are nice pictures of stations and canals ... but no such National Historic Landmark.
Moulin Rouge was a wonderful sight. Unfortunately, I have a lot of anxiety, so I am outside. I'm outside and take pictures in the cold. At this point, you may be wondering why anxious people are about to join one of the toughest military forces in the world .... a good question!!!

I went jogging without thinking about the direction. While running, I came across a monument to the Bastille Palace. The area was not very attractive due to the heavy construction work and the pillars wrapped in advertisements. But something else caught my eye. If you look closely behind the statue, many of the contrails are in the shape of a bow and arrow. I couldn't go anywhere and couldn't think of an adventure. I decided to follow the arrow in the clouds to see where it would lead.

Today, I looked at these pictures and noticed that they also resembled a nuclear explosion. The top is like a heart of love, but when combined with the bottom, it becomes like fire. I was there with the intention of joining the army, so I think it's appropriate for me. And second, at this point, Paris was still in a military blockade after many terrorist attacks. Paris and I seemed to share the same pedestal, and even the clouds were in a dire situation. It's love and war, but nothing is fair. Next to me is a woman taking a picture of the exact same landscape with a much better camera. I can't help but curse my cell phone camera.

I did eventually make it to the legion. Of course, this was followed by some meandering and one or two midnight bars. While I was staying in the barracks at Fort Dunoigent, I thought I should go to college, so I'm on this blog as a college now. Student ... not a soldier.
