ついに同僚がプールに入ってくれました！2年間一人で黙々と続けることになると思っていたので、とっても嬉しい出来事。途中で止めずに続けてくれますように。

At last, my colleague went to swim in a pool. I have thought I will continue alone for 2 years, so I was very happy. I wish she continue swim exercises for patients.
288日目、手作り訓練グッズ
元職場で患者さんたちが常用していたストレッチポールを作ってみました。倉庫に眠っていた布を巻いて安全ピンで止めてできあがり。同僚に試してみたところ、良いエクササイズになると言ってくれました。腰椎前弯の患者さんの多いガーナで流行るでしょうか？

I made a roll which patients used it commonly. It was rolled cloths and hold with safety pins.
I tried it to my colleague, and she said that it was good exercise for her. Will it be popular
in Ghana where many patients who has lordosis.
289日目、歓迎会準備
私たちの同期6人が新隊員歓迎会の幹事です。会場設営、40人分の食事の準備やボランティア紹介の動画作成、ゲームの司会進行、フリーマーケットの開催など、盛りだくさんの内容を運営しなくてはなりません。同期以外のボランティアにも手伝ってもらい、明日に向けてラストスパート。
18th Apr (289 days) preparation of a welcome party
Our member came to Ghana at the same time are 6. This time, we are the secretary of a welcome party for new volunteers. We have to manage a lot of things, setting up a place, preparing food for 40 people, making a movie to introduce volunteers, facilitating games and hold a free market. We asked some volunteers to support us and put on a last spurt for tomorrow.
290日目、売り子体験リレー
今日は3か月かけて計画してきた歓迎会です。それぞれの企画はどれも楽しんでいただけたように思います。盛り上がったのはトレイにピュアウォーター（ビニール袋入りの飲用水）2kgを載せて頭の上に運ぶ売り子体験リレー。普段見てはいるけど自分ではしないことなので、ガーナの人たちのバランス感覚の良さも実感できました。
19th Apr (290 days) a race as a sales woman
Today, we have welcome party that we prepared for 3 months. Participants enjoyed all programs. They grew livelier with a race. Runners carry a tray with 2kg of pure water (drinking water in plastic bag) it was put on their head. We always see them but we don’t do ourselves, so we realized goodness of the Ghanaians sense of balance.

新隊員歓迎会の次は隊員総会です。私は現在ガーナ隊自治会メンバーなので、今度はJICA事務所や外部の人も参加する公式なイベントの企画運営をしなくてはなりません。日程や内容の検討など初めの枠組み作りは時間がかかる・・
20th Apr (291 days) planning for event again
Next event of welcome party is general meeting for volunteers. I’m member of Ghana volunteers association, so we have to make a plan and manage of official event, in the event staffs of JICA office and other people who work out of JICA will participate in it. It takes long time to make a flame that includes date, contents and so on.

今晩は同僚を自宅に招待して夕飯をふるまいました。メニューはカレーライスとポテトサラダと煮たまごです。どれも口に合ったようで良かった。

I invited my colleague to my house and entertained dinner for her. Carry and rice, potato
salad, soy sauce taste boiled egg. I'm happy she can eat all of them.
293日目、片麻痺患者さんの思い
「こんなにリハビリに通っているのに何でもっと歩けるようにならないの？」日本でもよく言われたセリフです。ガーナの片麻痺患者さんもリハビリすればすぐに麻痺は治ると思うのでしょうね。地道にがんばりましょう。

“Why I can’t walk well? I went for regular visits for rehabilitation many times. ”I had heard that in Japan. They think paralysis will be better at once by therapy. Let’s make steady efforts.

内反足のケア方法を説明するためのポスター作製のため、印刷した写真をラミネート加工しました。分かりやすいポスター作ろう。

make the poster that is easy to understand.
295日目、中間報告プレゼンテーション
活動開始から8ヶ月時点での報告をしました。英語でのプレゼンテーションです。話す文章を覚える私たちの様子は午前中の健康診断の待ち時間は試験前の学生のようでした。
24th Apr (295 days) mid-term presentation
We reported about our activities for 8 months from the beginning. We presented in English. We looks like students who are waiting for examination because we memorized sentences for presentation all the waiting times of health checkup.

マラソン大会の参加費を振り込むため銀行にやって来ました。大会事務局に問い合わせたり、フォームに記入したり。いろいろ勉強になりました。
25th Apr (296 days) remittance
We went to a bank to send money to participate marathon race. We asked a secretariat of the race, fill in a form and so on. We had good practice.
297日目、同職種とのおしゃべり
手術後の患者さんの治療方針、配属先による活動内容の違い、活動終了後のこと、困っていること、うまく行ったこと、いろいろ話しました。仲間との会話は刺激になります。
26th Apr (297 days) chatting with friends who has the same job
We talked about plan of treatment after operation, difference of activities between our workplaces, future after expiration our assignment, troubles, good practice and so on. It acted as a good stimulus.

私の配属先の上司のお宅にお邪魔しました。私の配属先と関わりのある職業訓練校に派遣されている隊員と共に。彼女の学校の学生である患者さんの治療方針の相談をしました。とても分かりやすい説明をしてくれたので私たちの頭の中も整理され感謝。

I visited my boss. I attended another volunteer who is dispatched to the vocational school that bears relation to my workplace. We asked him about plan of treatment for the patient who goes her school. He explained us clearly, so our ideas were put in order, so we thank him from bottom of our hearts.
299日目、夜8時まで残業
ガーナに来てまで残業するとは。先週月曜日が休みだったので、今日は120人以上の患者さんが来ました。いつも、私と同僚がペアを組み、上司にあたる人と半々で対応しています。最後の患者さんは重症心身障害の13歳の女の子。7時過ぎに始めて8時に終了しました。みんなお疲れさま。
28th Apr (299 days) overtime work until 8 P.M.
I never imagined I’d work overtime in Ghana. More than 120 patients came, because of last
Monday was holiday. Every Monday, we divide into two groups, one is a pair that is made of me and my colleague, another one is our boss and sees patients. The last patient was 13-years-old girl who had severely handicapped child. We start to see her at a few minutes after 7 P.M. and end at 8 P.M. Thanks for all your hard work.

外来に週1回通ってきている脳卒中の患者さんがいます。何度も自宅でできる運動を説明していますが、1週間後にチェックすると覚えていないと言われます。 日本でもこういう患者さんはたくさんいます。日本では写真にとって説明をタイプして印刷して渡していましたが、ここでは手書きで作成しました。これを見ながら続けてくれるといいけれど。
29th Apr (300 days) countermeasure for self-training
A patient comes for physical therapy once a week. I explained home exercises to him many times, but he said that he didn't remember after one week. There are many patients like him in Japan. I used to take pictures, type explanation, print out and give them. In Ghana, I made it by handwriting. I hope he will continue.

水曜午後は外遊びの日ですが、雨期は雨のため室内遊びになる日もあります。クリスマスに子どもたちの室内遊び用にとプレゼントした卓球セットを使おうかと思いましたが、どこにも見当たらず。ペンはすぐになくなる、ボールはすぐに穴が空く。物を大切にするという概念はここには無いのでしょうか？
30th Apr (301 days) missing for 4 months from presenting
Usually, children play outside on Wednesday afternoon. When it is rainy day, they play inside.
I want to use table tennis set that I presented for playing inside, but I couldn't find out.
Always pens had gone somewhere, balls sprang a leak. I wonder there is no attitude of using
things carefully?

木曜日にだけ開かれるビーズマーケット。キレイなビーズがたくさん並んでいました。平日休めるチャンスはなかなか無いので、いろいろ買ってしまいました。
1st May (302 days) items that I buy impulsively
Beads market is opened only Thursday. Many beautiful beads fill the shops. I bought lots of things because it is difficult to take day off on weekday.
303日目、先天性3肢切断
義足を作成に来た2歳の女の子は、右手以外の手足が短く生まれました。左手は肩から5cm。両足も10cmありません。私の地域に住むガーナ人女性は両足が短く両手が無くても教師という仕事についています。みんな強く生きてるなぁ。
2nd May (303 days) congenital triple amputation
2-years-old girl who came to make prosthetics has short limbs when she was bone. 5cm arm from left shoulder, legs are less than 10cm. One of the woman who stay in my town has short legs and no hand. But she works as a teacher. They carry on living strongly.
304日目、断水4日目
水を汲み上げるポンプが動いていないらしく、ここ数日蛇口から水が出ているところを見ていません。おまけに半日停電。頭痛と39.8度の熱と下痢などで横になっているしかありませんでした。夕方若干熱が下がったところでお隣さんの水道まで行って10㎏バケツに水を汲んで5往復。そこのおうちの少年が頭の上に載せて運んでくれました。ありがとう。
3rd May (304 days) no water 4 days
Because a machine that pomp up water is not working, in these days, I didn't see water flowing from the tap. In addition electricity was offed half a day. I had a headache, 39.8 temperature fever, running stomach and so on. So, I could nothing to do without lying down. In the evening, my fever went down a little, I went the next doors’ tap, fill water 10 kg in a basket, and go and back 5 turn. A son who stays in the house carried the basket on the head. Thank you very much.

いつまで待っても水道から水が出ないので、観念して節水しながら洗濯、シャワー、トイレのタンクに水をためる。早く復旧するといいな。
4th May (305 days) still no water
Water is not flowing. I wait for long time. Washing, shower and toilet I wish water pomp work soon.
306日目、やっと復旧
断水中は、手洗い、洗体、洗濯、トイレには溜めてある水を使っていました。口に入れる水は濾過器を通して必ず熱を加えていました。日中の暑さと自由に水を使えないストレスもあって抵抗力が落ちていたのでしょう。不衛生な生活を強いられて病気になっている子どもに、「清潔な水を使いましょう、きれいに手を洗いましょう」と言ったって、場所によっては厳しい要求なのかも知れないと身を持って知りました。
5th May (306 days) finally water has come
I used water that stocked in the tank for washing hands, body, cloths and toilet. For drinking
water, I filter and heat water. It may become low resistance because of heat in the day time and stress cause of no water that I can use freely. I realize that it is difficult request for example “Use clean water, or wash your hand well” for the sick children who owe to live with unsanitary living conditions depend on the place.
307日目、改良松葉杖で歩行練習
いよいよ杖を使ってもらう時が来ました。最初のユーザーとなったのは二分脊椎で両足が麻痺している4歳の女の子。ガーナ式の長下肢装具を付けて歩行開始、数回教えてあげただけで上手に歩けました。従来の杖を使った腋の下で杖に寄りかかる歩行より体を起こした姿勢になっています。他の子もこれで練習始めてみよう。
6th May (307 days) exercise with refined crutches
The chance has come to let them use the crutches. The first user is a 4 year old girl who has paralysis of both legs because of Spina bifida. She started to walk with Ghanaian long leg
brace. She could walk well after taught her how to use it a few times. The posture was kept up light it’s better than traditional one. Let’s try it for other children.
308日目、杖職人さんを治療
杖を作ってくれた職人さんがPT室にやって来ました。変形性膝関節症です。減量が一番必要だけれど、今はモビライゼーションとビーチサンダルを切って張った足底板で経過観察です。
7th May (308 days) treatment for technician of crutches
A technician came to physical therapy room. He has osteoarthritis of knee. It is necessary to reduce the weight. Now, I do mobilization and try insole that made of some peaces which I cut beach sandal.
309日目、雨期
雨が降って外で体を動かせない子どものために、簡単な障害物コースを作りました。みんな片足でダイナミックに飛んだり跳ねたり。また明日も雨だったら何か考えないと。
8th May (309 days) rain season
I made an athletic course for children who can't play outside because rain. Everyone run and jumped with one leg. I have to think something if it rain tomorrow.
