They strangle utility poles,
Break asphalt with the slowest wipes,
Eat into walls,
And clog up drainpipes.
Cling on the wind, humans, cats, birds
is a wise
To travel.
Once they find soil of a coin size,
The roots spread like skirts that swivel.
Like a crowd that heaves
To catch lucky beans thrown on Setsubun Day,
They open their leaves,
Eat away dead kindred like hay.
Run onto.
Climb over.
Cutting down tall ones just lets short ones appear.
I look down on them by calling “Weed”.
However, I am always attacked in the rear
By those which repel names indeed.
