Sotnikova placed second in the European Championships.

Her SP was great.

I sometimes wondered why they have large expectations for her in her country.

But watching this performance, I understood that she has definitely received her coach's skating style; soft and airy.

In 2014, I will know if the style will fit with the times or current judging system

Ladies singles, this is the only discipline in which the Olympic gold medal has eluded such a big figure skating nation like Russia. Adelina Sotnikova is one of the few for offering a major hope for the long and anticipated the ladies crown in the sport first of all in Sochi 2014. At the age of 15, Sotnikova has already claimed the Russian domestic title three times having also won the worlds junior championships in 2011.

Vodorezova: She has already proved a strong will to win. She's a fighter and this is something you cannot teach. That's given by god. She's one of those who can compete and can reach the top results. That's the fact.

Sotnikova: I was 4 when my mom committed to skating school nearby just to test my capability for skating with professional coaches. All the kids around started crying on they fell down. But I stood up and kept moving forward step by step and coaches looked at my mother and said, "We strongly recommend that you make her continue." And that's how I started figure skating.

According to the international skating union's rankings, Sotnikova is currently the world' s No.17, but has plenty of time to find to tune her skills with her coach, 5 times USSR champion, Elena Vodorezova.

Every single tone is a lesson to face tough competitions' ups and downs. At the first ever Youth Winter Olympic in Insbrook back in January, Sotnikova was edged out by her teammate, another Russian hopeful, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.

Vodorezova: Adelina beat Liza at the Russian championships. In Insbrook it comes opposite. They always get to compare each other. They compete against each other and that's ok. It's just like Evgeni Plushenko versus Alexei Yagudin rivalry which only gave a boost in the Russian figure skating. As for the girls, only time will tell who's better. They're both still growing.

Sotnikova: We had a good relationship. I would say we are friends. As the Youth Olympic in Insbrook, we lived together in the same apartment. When things come to ice rink, it gets tough, which is do battle to survival.

There are still lots to be done for Adelina Sotnikova to fulfill her huge potential. But one thing has always been there in her mind; a champion's mentality.

Sotnikova: I like to take chances and I always take the risks of doing things which are difficult for me. Sometime I'll not do well during my warm-up, my coach tells me to leave some complicated elements out of my program. But I always dare to do them. I think to myself I'm strong. I am true that I can do it.

That's what nobody can teach and Sotnikova has it.
