2 Corinthians 13
"Not to Tear You Down, But to Build You Up"

The Power to Build Up
Paul explains why he wrote this letter in verse 10 of 2 Corinthians 13. The authority of the Lord that we are blessed with is not to break us down, but to lift us up. How exactly, though, are we lifted up?

Becoming Whole
1. Live Alongside Christ (vs. 3-4)
Do you remember Paul's statement in 2 Corinthians 4 that people are like earthen vessels - weak and fragile? However, we can become stronger when God's power works inside of our "vessel." Even Christ was crucified in weakness but is now living by the power of God. In the same way, we too are weak, but if Christ is in us that means we are living alongside God and can become strong.

2. Examine Yourself; Test Yourself (vs. 5-7)
Walk with God. In order for us to be strong, we first must examine and test ourselves. But what exactly should we be testing? Well, do you still have faith? Are you dedicated to God's will for your life?

3. Follow the Truth (vs. 8-10)
Finally, Paul encourages us to abide by truth. As it says in verse 8, we have no power to do anything against the truth. It is precisely because we follow the truth that we can receive power. God's desire is for us to become whole, for although we are weak, if we accept God - the same God who resurrected Christ, we can become strong and complete.

Conclusion: To Live with God By Your Side
It is written that Christ was crucified in weakness - but this certainly does not mean that Christ was weak. The glory of God is displayed through the cross of Christ and through His death and resurrection. Anyone who hears that news and realizes his/her sin, repents and accepts the Lord as his/her savior, will live alongside God in his power.
