我が家は子供の部屋がリビングの上の階にある。
母はよくリビングから子供達の名前を呼ぶ。
例によって今日も、リビングから私の名を大声で呼んだ。

私は返事をせず、

と小声で返した。
聞こえなかったのか母はまた私の名を大声で呼んだ。
「〇〇ーー！！」
私はもう一度強めに
「しー…！」
と言った。
返事をしないことを不満に感じた母は三たび私の名を呼んだ。
「〇〇ーーー！！！」
私はたまらず、
「静かに！！！」
と言った。
母は知らなかった。
私の隣の部屋で兄がオンライン英会話をしていることを。
兄の部屋からレッスンの声が聞こえることから、
私たちの声が兄の部屋にも聞こえることが分かる。
結果として、
私の名は兄の大学のクラスに知られることとなり、
そして「静かに！！！」と叫ぶ声も聞かれてしまった。
どうかあのときだけ兄がミュートをオンにしていますように。
そう願うばかりである。
