Hobby gardeners often do not realize or too late that the plants have a deficiency. Which signs you should consider and what the correct dosage is.
Fertilizing once is not enough for long-flowering ornamental plants. So-called permanent bloomers produce new buds again and again and therefore have a corresponding need for nutrients.
If nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, magnesium or iron become scarce, the plants wither, explains the Federal Association of Retail Gardeners. If the green is weak, pests and diseases also make it easier to infest the plants – which is comparable to the damaged immune system in humans.
In the case of potted plants, rely on long-term preparations
The problem: The hobby gardener does not realize that the plants have a deficiency. It can only show up after weeks, explains the Federal Association.
Therefore, potted plants that cannot always get new nutrients from the garden soil need fertiliser stake on a regular basis. A long-term preparation makes sense here. It gradually releases its fabrics and may even supply plants for a whole season.
