There has been a lot of media coverage on the coronavirus issue recently.
However, despite having more people recognise this issue as a serious problem, I feel that it is not enough. Especially the younger ones should realise this issue, that it is a crisis. Even some people around me say 'I am young so even if I get the virus it is not going to affect my life'. This is a great misunderstanding, and I believe it is a very irresponsible thing to say. In fact, in England a 21 year old recently passed away, as well as in France, a 16 year old passed away - both people did not have prior diseases. I would like to offer my condolences for them and I pray to those affected.
I also believe that at the same time, we should sincerely thank those who are working in the medical field, news anchors, as well as private organisations helping those affected.
However, I think that the problem lies mainly in the Japanese government.

Firstly, the Japanese government had not intervened when the number of patients were increasing at the very early stage of the epidemic. At the time, the Chinese and South Korean government had already proposed measures to contain the virus, yet, the Japanese government did not do so - they were not ready to increase medical facilities and equipment as well as accommodation for those suspected of being infected, and for those infected. Thus, the results show now that Japan's infected number is rising, similar to current situations in Europe and America, but different to China and South Korea where numbers are decreasing.

Just sending 2 masks per household will not really help the containment of the virus. Like in other countries, the Japanese government should introduce a state of emergency. Also, they should disinfect public areas, such as in stations and trains, increase the accommodation facilities for quarantine, as well as medical centres to check for early symptoms, including those coming back to Japan......introduce the 1.5m distance rule....so many things the government can introduce, yet, why are they not proposing these direct measures? Perhaps it is hard to introduce measures due to complicated administrative procedures? Or it is because they are worried it might cost too much? Or they don't think it is much of a serious issue...?
I do not believe it is time to sit back and think about the drawbacks of introducing direct measures such as this. The number of deaths and those affected is definitely rising. And people are also psychologically affected. At least they should introduce the state of emergency....I think that it will be too late if they introduce it only after Prime Minister Abe actually admits there is an 'emergency crisis'. (although I believe Japan is already in a great crisis...)
Despite not directly being able to communicate with the government, I believe we have the right to say what we think, and to openly discuss amongst ourselves, moreso because we are in a situation like this. We should, including me, start to think what we can do, and how, instead of what is wrong, or right. And it is because we are in a crisis like now, that we have to not be afraid but be attentive to what is actually going on right now.
It is because the government was chosen by us, that they have the right to hold sovereignty of the state. This is why they should be more responsible for the country. We pay tax for the government, because we rely on them - it is some sort of chip that we give to them. In a democracy, a government exists because of its citizens, and it is because there is equality between the citizens and the government, that a democratic society can be built. If the government, however, determines its own actions for the state without listening to what the citizens think or believe, then there is a threat to democracy.
